It's badly needed and don't have them carry over from day to day. Putting a price on them/making them more scarce might rein in the worst of the abuse.

Meh, it all still sucks more than a pornstar in a gobstopper factory.

Would you prefer rep or karma? At least a positive only system makes things less ugly.

How bout nothing? Once you try put on reason on spending hours online . . . .

It seems there is a clear divide between it being very very useful for some forums (like say the tech forums), but not useful in the slightest for other forums (like Afterhours).

Could it just be enabled on a forum by forum basis?

Also, moving it from the far right, go go go :)

    I'd prefer nothing.

We got along fine without it and it doesn't actually add anything to the site.

We will all still make up our minds on user reputations and all this might do is allow certain users to build up some sort of underserved reputation through boards nepotism.

so not at all? why would a pornstar be sucking in gobstopper factory, maybe they don't like them? shouldn't it be sucking more than a pornstar in gonzo facials III?

I think it's harmless really. Anyone who actually gets bothers by the number or lack of thanks they get needs to get out more.

I'm resisting the temptation to google that.

Oh I was just discussing the possible arguements about it.

My point of view is that it is ugly and annoying when browsin threads.

Also, the button is in a bad place.

Adding things with no function for the sake of it is stupid.

    I second this suggestion.

    Agreed
Also, the button is in a bad place.

    A point for discussion.

It has a function, it rewards helpful posters in forums. Problem is, most of the helpful posters were there without the need for a reward system.

    So why was it implemented?

some posters have who thanked them in this thread, some dont, but still have a thanks tally, how do you show who had thanked you, or does it only display in the thread where the thanks was given

You can see all your posts thanked by somebody and all posts you thanked in your user profile.

If it's limited to just the tech forums/whatever, it mightn't be so bad and it'd serve some kind of usage. It might encourage some people to be more helpful with their replies or something.

Maybe the word "thanks" should be replaced with "Agree" or similar.

I'm not getting the whole thanks thing - is meant to be like going + 1 to a post?

Nope, its more of a reward for helpful posters. For example, people in the tech forums spend there entire time helping out query's and problems. So if this system worked well they would achieve much higher thanks ratings then anybody else. But in discussion forums and argumentative forums(AH) I can see the system merely being a degrading form of online popularity contests.

When you thank someone, you're thanking everyone they've ever thanked. Disgusting.

Change confuses and upsets me. Especially largely useless changes that put an annoying little bar under posts.

Hopefully the initial splurge of click happy people will wear off.

    well your a wankstain.

When you are thanked and the name of the thankee appears under your posts, wouldnt it be better if you could click on the names and it took you to the post the person was thanked for instead of their profile?

If it were possible to do this then i think this would better. If we then saw a load of thanks under someones name we could immiadiatly see what words of wisdom prompted all the gratitude.

I gave you another "Thanks" to play around with so you can double check your findings.

Don't thank me for it, it was my pleasure. :)

    Helped :)

Quick links (located at the top of the page)> My Profile. Just below the "find all posts by this user" you'll see two options "Find all thanked post by " and "Find all posts thanked by ".
