About 2 years ago, when I was 18 I noticed my hair seemed to be falling out. At the time I thought it was because of stress from the Leaving Cert. But it has continued to happen ever since. You still wouldn't notice any hair gone off my head but I'm worried that its only a matter of time before you will. I used to take Nourkrin and then stopped. Since then it has been taken off the market.
So my question is: What is the best product I could buy to help stop my hair loss?

Go to your GP they can refer you to a specialist. It could be anything from a Vitamin deficiency to Alopecia.

Signpost you're post was not helpful and about as welcome as a fart in a sleeping bag. Read the charter before posting in here again.

OP, you can try all the potions, lotions and creams out there, but at the end of the day, if your Dad, grandads, uncles, granduncles, that dude from the 1790s who's picture is hanging on your wall, the fella with the long gray wig, if even one of them lads was bald, it's in your genes. You can't do a damn thing about it. You are going bald.

I was the same as you when I was SIXTEEN. My hair was thin, falling out.

    What did I do?

Sucked it up is what I did. Accept it for who I am.

Look around you, bald fellas everywhere.

Stop wasting your money, time and energy on these crackpot "cures". You are going to be a slaphead, better to accept it now than be some weird dude in his 40s with a syrup.

You might think that girls will be put off, well let me tell you. Any woman who won't be with you because of a bit of hair loss isn't worth the energy anyway. Have a look through PI there. Girls asking all kind of questions "is he too small", "is his back too hairy", but I don't tink I've ever seen a girl asking if she shouldn't be with a dude just because he's baldy.

Now, accept it, but DO NOT buy one of them godawful "it's not a bald patch, it's a solar panel for a sex machine" t-shirts - they are cringey.

DO come on over and join your brothers though. Celebrate with us!

Clearly you've never camped in the mountains :pac:

OP first thing to do is head over to The Beer Guts and Receding Hairlines forum. Welcome brother!

Second, You can always try Regain or Rogaine or whatever its called, or a surgical hair transplant. Or, like that one cooky teacher I had, you can try a combover (oh god please dont)

Honestly though just be proud of it. Its all you. You know, right after you go to a doctor and check you havent been exposed to lethal amounts of Radon or something.

Wow - a topic close to my heart, alright - am in a similar position myself. TBH, I don't think any of the cheap solutions really work. I'm not too bad at the mo - it's cover-able (just up the sides)
However, I'm thinking I'll hold out as long as I can, cause science really is advancing here - look up replacement therapy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldness_treatments#Hair_multiplication_.28under_development.29
cause there doesn't seem to be any other good option - also, you could make an appointment with a specialist yourself and hope for the best - could cost big bucks and dunno what results you'd expect.
    Hope that helps!! :D

Whatever you do OP dont go down the road of reading forums and advice pages about hairloss products. It's intensely depressing and bad for your head (no pun intended) and the forums are full of broken souldead men who have become obsessed with they're hairline. If you wanna try a product then do but dont focus on it as an important part of your life. Live your life and forget about your hairline.

Don't lose sleep about it OP, apart from anything else I know a few people whose hair thinned quite a bit in their late teens and then stayed as it was, something to do with puberty ending and hormones levelling off.
Even if it does keep falling out, yes it sucks, but accept it and you'll be happier. I'm 20 and when I was 18 had pretty damn long hair and of course I was told my hair was falling out because it was long. Got a 2-blade all over and it still kept falling out. You can try using Regaine or the like if you want, odds are it'll be a waste of money.
Look at it like this, if ya can't accept going bald, how will you deal with big problems when they come along?

Shave it all off! Nothing worse than seeing a guy desperately hanging on to his hair. Be one step ahead of nature by shaving it off!

Or you could ask Stephen Ireland about his choices... :D

shave it off. bald guys are hot :)

Forget about the potions, like all the other say, genetics . I was about 18 when the hair line started it race to the back of my neck, However I am 32 and while the race is still on it is no where near the finish. In all that time I used to get a small bit of stick from some lads (not the girls), who now are worse off than me. So the best thing you can do is go to the hair dresser and ask them to try out a new hair style that will suite. You don't need to shave it off, but that is an alternative. It does not matter how much hair you have you can look good by dressing and styling to kill. The ladies pay way more attention to a well dressed man with a good sense of humor than the guy who has the locks and is a pri*k. So I am told and have witnessed.

PS Don't try to hide it, either by comb over, or the comb forward, the irish weather will give you away, and it will just make you look sad.

I too would add in the shave your head close. You may even find you look better than you already do :)

Like others have said there is nothing worse looking than someone desperately holding on to their hair.

Why on earth would I shave my head, like I said you wouldn't even notice that I had lost any hair. All I wanted was a bit of info on products that I could get so please dont waste your time or my time if all you can do is tell me to shave my head!

    Hi OP,

I went through the exact same thing at your age. I tried every lotion and potion under the sun. There is nothing out there that will give you a full, thick head of natural hair.

My solution was to shave my head and join a gym. I have to say it was the best thing I ever did. Everyone told me that I look much better with my head shaved.

Losing your hair can have a detrimental effect on your self confidence however there are worse things in life.

Feel free to PM me and I will tell you about my experience and I guarantee you will see things arent so bad.

    Best regards.

A head shaver with a number one blade clip (or number 2). Shaved heads suit a lot of guys and look cool. I've shaved my head on and off since I was 20. People think it suits me. I did grow it back a little when I taught in a secondary school last year, but by and large, I'm happier when it's neatly shaved. Give it a lash and see what you think. (Also, a lot of girls do like shaved heads.)

My friends always jokingly said I was going bald, or so I thought they were joking. One day I leaned over in front of a mirror and realised my hair was thinning badly at the age of 17. I made the decision to shave my head.

I'm not going to tell you to shave your head OP without looking into every avenue first. I was lucky in the sense that I'm rather stocky so the shaved head suited me, a shaved head doesn't suit eeveryone.

If you do shave head, don't do it on a whim, give it some real thought because if you shave it off it's never going to grow back. Don't do nything you might regret.

Of course it will grow back! After about 5 weeks a one blade grows almost 2 inches.

I went to a specialist hair studio in London, and I'm currently on a 12 month plan including nearly 40 sessions of laser treatment, tablets and lotion. I'm on it for only 4 months and there is definately a difference. It was costly to sign up, but the good thing is, if it fails, they compensate you using a scientific procedure, whereby they send a sample of your hair to some lab, and they come back with a load more hairs (enough to cover your head) and implant them in your head. Seems a bit much, but I have seen some results of the initial laser procedure and it works. My GF advised me on it, and I'm delighted I signed up for it now. Only downside is that it can be costly if not based in London, which my GF is so I am there quite often anyway.

There is ways and means, and look, if you are happy just to face up to the fact that genetics is genetics, then just accept who you are. I, luckily, went for it and am very happy so far.

Hmm, I see! Mine gets fuzzy too while it grows back, but the fuzziness lasts only for about a week or two before it gets long enough to lie properly. I'm not bald -- my hairline is just receding rapidly and thinning too.

You're lucky, when I shaved my hair off the 1st time that was the last I saw of any hairstyle. I don't mind though, as I said it suits me.

My hair fell out most of the way through college, loads of it. Didn't know what was going on, didn't worry about it. eventually stopped. My hairs a bit thinner but you wouldn't even notice it.

Don't know why it started or stopped but it did. I'd stop worrying about it. It could just be brittle hair if it still isn't noticable and you should try switching shampoo.

I was usin head and shoulders and switched to herbel essences around the time it stopped actually now that I think of it so maybe give that a go.

And are you stressed OP? Whilst I'm not a fan of Doctors in general, he/she may have a point...

Here's the thing. I noticed my hair thinning a while ago and it was only in 2005 that i went for it, bought the clippers and it was a blade zero thing for ages. For one reason or another, from last August, i decided to let my hair grow again and sure it's a lot thicker at the sides and there's evidence of a receding hairline but it's the damnedest thing...

*everybody* says that this looks better. It's long. Mildly scruffy. And surely thin-ish at the front. But better than the cueball look, i'm told. Now, i found that hard to take. I'd normally be at one with the BGRH brethren and advise the shave it all off routine, but certainly the, er, feedback i've gotten from people who'd not seen the 9 months hair growth was almost entirely "having hair takes years off you".

My natural response was "but but but i'm receding...LOOK" and i'd show the evidence.

All, genuinely, met with exasperated "trust me's" from the fairer sex - and let's face it, one has to. As most girls i've known are well aware that i've done the cueball thing previously and seen it, and can compaire, it's not, obviously, that i look ridiculous the way i am...

Rogaine was suggested, and i've surrendered. I've been giving it six weeks now and i think it does sorta work. Whether it'll work enough that i'll get over the notion that in my own mind, i might look daft and people are only being kind is another story entirely. :)

Thus, to the OP, I'd say give the Rogaine a lash if you want. Don't be hung up on shaving your head either. Be ready to give into the Blade 1/zero if needs be. I honestly felt very liberated with just a bristly noggin, and certainly during the summer of 2006 it was a godsend, and a tanned all over head looks quite healthy. (until you get sunburnt...)

The lads making the point about genetics are bang on the money. I'm not deluding myself thinking i'll have some class of luxurious mane, but so long as it's not as wispy as feck, i don't care that much. On the other hand, i've not chucked out the clippers either!
