Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have you tried RadarBox24.com Gives ground movements in SNN. Not sure how accurate it is.
It is on a BA and NATS trial today. SNN has been chosen as a divert airport as well as CWL and STN. As BA has said there will be a series of visits to these airports. Anyone who missed today should keep a look out for future visits.

I saw her fly over me this morning. I'm on the Wexford/Kilkenny border. She was quite low. Could make her out very clearly

This picture of the maintenance crew and marshals underneath the plane make it look absolutely massive. Wish I could have seen it in person as it truly is a sight to see.

EDIT: Apologies for the link, picture won't embed

I was there (I can see myself in that video too) and it was pretty cool tbh. A lot quieter than I expected both for landing and for takeoff. It is huge! Very elegant and graceful in flight as well. I'll have a few pics/videos up later on, when I get a chance to process them. I was glad I was out there today :D

The size relative to the JFK bound A318 is pretty impressive!

Great shot! Passed my window this morning..a thing of beauty and much quieter than I thought it would be., especially as it is so big.

Looking at the videos of it flying, it's mad to think that it can actually get off the ground, let alone be that graceful and quiet.

A few years ago I was in LHR near the top of the takeoff queue. Just ahead of us I saw, in immediate sucession, a B744, an A380 and an A333 take-off.
Not sure what sort of weight each was carrying but the A380 was easily the quietest of the 3.

Some great pictures lads. Would have loved to have seen this but many m,ore of us with trips to LHR in the future I hope. Especially love the picture of it along side the A318. I know its the smallest plane that BA mainline operate but its not the smallest plane in a BA livery. imagine the A380 next to this!

Out of curiosity, why was the A318 parked in that location? Was it purely for a photo op or what? I would have thought the turnaround time for that flight would be quite short.

My footage from yesterday's A380 visit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭Comhrá

Slightly off-topic......I was there in the crowd enjoying the sight of the A380 yesterday, but the obvious restrictions to viewing are very apparent - high fence, trees etc.

Is there any other place in that area with a reasonably clear view of the runway? I'm guessing there's none - due to security concerns, but thought I'd ask anyway. It's a shame really. I can recall in the 80s and 90s, I used to use the old road (along with hundreds of other people) by the perimeter fence which gave an excellent view of arrivals and departures off runway 24.

I was going to ask if somebody got her going out. Thanks for that last clip. That was brilliant view. Ill say it again, what a beautifull bird!!

I got there good and early. I was first there at 6:30am to get the best spot and stood on top of my car to film! Pretty tired today but well worth it. Glad you enjoyed the video.

BA chose SNN for the A318/A380 photo op as it is relatively uncongested. And while yes it would extend the turnaround time BA obviously thought it worth it to get the nose to nose shot. I has heard they were examining a Cliffs of Moher flyby photo op as well.

Trying to taxi both aircraft to a "quiet" spot in LHR would be impossible. And you can see the tug that they use to get the A318 over to the taxiway and then back. It may only have added 20 mins extra to the normal turnaround for the photo op.

I read elsewhere a call to get both B787's in position for a triple flyby, a B787 on each side of the A380!

In 1982 this graced the skies of Ireland
I think it will be hard to beat with the exception of R/C Aircraft

Pardon me for stating the blindingly obvious, but can someone please resurrect this thread if/when they hear of the next visit?

I couldn't have gone this time, but with a couple of days notice I'm sure I could figure something out next time ...

    Thanks!
