I would see Walcott/Gibbs for Sterling as an awful deal for Liverpool. Couple of decent games against **** teams and Walcott is the second coming. Either way those kind of swap deals for a couple of players never have any truth in them.

a good half season and sterling is viewed as a world class player. Walcott and anything above 20 million for sterling would be great business.

Swap deals never happen, also, we're hardly like to allow Sterling to move to Arsenal after what was said last year.

Can't see any reason why Sterling would go to Arsenal unless he sees it as a stepping stone to another club.

City will pay him more to fill their quota and give him a better chance at trophies.

Sky reporting that Rodgers has met with FSG and there is an update next.

Sky sports Vinny O'Connor just reported from outside the clubs offices. The meetings with the owners and BR lasted 3 hours and Rodgers will be boss next season.

They have a better squad. 2 world class players in Sanchez & Ozil. If they get a very good DM & CB i think they will challenge for the title.

Wouldn't underestimate the draw of living in London for a young lad who grew up there.

Yeah, Arsenal fands have been beating that drum all season and still finished four points behind them.

2 world class players in Sanchez & Ozil.

Like Aguero and Silva. And O'zil has been far from World Class for them.
If they get a very good DM & CB i think they will challenge for the title.

They were going to challenge this year, and last year, and the year before, etc etc.

They won't keep winning the FA cup either.

Must say I am skeptical of that sky report considering none of the main liverpool journos have mentioned anything of the sort

If he stays he will have to start the season well or he will be under some pressure. Especially with good managerial candidates currently on 'sabbatical'

If he stays and it turns out he's actually serious about bringing in dross like Gibbs and Walcott he should be under pressure.

    Looks like he's staying.

If he does bring in the likes of Ings, Milner, Benteke and Gibbs, he'll be sacked by Christmas.

Id agree minus Milner, i still think he's a fantastic signing

If you consider Theo Walcott dross you're in for a disappointing summer. Good luck with Ingsy!

Yep, looks like he's staying. Unless by positive they mean a whopping pay off!! :pac:

It would have been a surprise if he had been sacked at this point. There is no definitive point at which you would be able to judge next season on as in theory if we have 7 points from 7 games or something awful that might be enough, or we might start well and then go on a terrible run until Christmas and that might be enough, but make no mistake, he is under pressure for next season from the get go essentially.

He's not the biggest crock at Arsenal, Jack 'Benson and Hedges' Wilshere takes that title, but he's never strung more than a handful of decent performances together, before snapping his leg, tearing ligaments, or just fading away.

His pace is the only thing I like about him; would be class to have his 96 pace in our side on FIFA16.

    Diaby?

Didn't he need to be rushed to hospital after getting a paper cut while signing his contract?

When it comes to injuries, that lad has a Diabyolical record.

There will be a serious amount of butthurt over the summer if Rodgers is staying on!

I wonder if people can just suck it up and get behind the manager and the club, doubtful to be honest.

While there will be a certain amount of disillusionment, the majority of the match going fans will do just that, and once everyone else has got used to the fact that he is staynig it'll calm down until the start of the season anyhow in that regard.

Good luck to Rodgers. I'm not over the moon about him staying to put it mildly but I hope he can turn things around and have us firing next season. At this stage the odds are very much stacked against him imo. He needs to hit the ground running next season as anything other than a good start will see a toxic home atmosphere coupled will massive pressure from the media.

FFS. If Rodgers does well, then Liverpool does well then the fans are happy.

If Rodgers doesn't do well, which he didn't, then Liverpool didn't do well therefore unhappy fans.

I would have liked to have seen him replaced but Benitez is going to Real, Klopp is taking time off and Ancelloti is having surgery and taking a year off so with those three unavailable I'd rather stick with Rodgers then test say Marc Overmars or God forbid another up and coming manager like Dyche.

But with Rodgers staying he has a hell of a lot to prove with the biggest test being to show he knows how to manage a squad and that he can tactically survive in Europe which in 3 attempts he's failed.

Im just hoping we sign some good . Clyne & Milner would be good. But Benteke & Ings as our 2 new strikers would be a poor window.

I'm just delighted a decision has been made to be honest. Couldn't handle weeks and weeks of fcuking around and 'will he stay or will he go' bull****. At least it's been decided early and it gives him more time get to work on getting things right and fixing and improving things, on transfers, concrete plans knowing his job is secure, etc...

Whether or not you like it is another question but you'll just have to suck it up and get behind him, and rightly so. I know I'm behind him, given he's the manager of our club and will try his best to get things right. I hope it happens for him.

Thanks for last season, no thanks for this season, roll on next season. Best of luck Brendan :)

Now go eat something please, a few have commented on your weight loss recently and that it was probably stress related. Your job is safe.

    Oh ffs.

Are you simple? They got beaten on away goals in a 2nd round game, we didn't get through a group with Basle and Ludogorets while they were beating the mighty Dortmund

Can we stop with the Arsenal vs Liverpool schoolyard stuff? Please?

I'm happy he is staying, he will get a chance to prove which was the blip, this season or last? Its probably the deciding factor for the owners too, can he replicate or get close to what we achieved last season?

I'm disappointed that the recruitment policy remains the same. If Rodgers fails next season will they then be forced to change it?
I'm under no illusions that some of the names banded about on here are pie in the sky, but we simply have to buy the best players on the continent that are prepared to come to us, something I don't think we will do.

As long as he's Liverpool manager he has my backing, I saw 18 months of solid progressive football in his 3 year reign, lets get back to that next season.

If we sign Milner is that not a change of policy? High-earner, kinda-old, lots of experience at the top level

As a Liverpool fan can I say that is ridiculous to post that.

Arsenal had an outstanding season compared to us. Won a trophy and got into the Champions League for the 18th time in a row.

If you're going to pick targets to slag, pick better ones!

Arsenal would wipe the floor with us at the moment. There's no comparison this season, they were better and are looking like they'll be comfortably better next season.

    End of discussion.

    More about Rodgers.

Agreed on the part in bold.

I guess I was of the opinion that there other managers available that have more experience and would have been a better fit for us but...eh...we'll just have to hope he gets it right next season.

Ya a signing I'm absolutely delighted with but we need far more. The scouting is really poor, bar Coutinho and Can how many unknown gems have we unearthed from the continent?

The talent is with the European players, and for a club obsessed with value, Europe has plenty, but we continue to "scout" PL players. Is Benteke really the best striker we could get for our money? Say £25m on Benteke, surely we could do better?

What I'm trying to say is the morale is low after the highs of last season and the lows of this. Gerrard and Suarez gone, a big marquee signing is needed to boost the squad and get some of the fans back onside for next season.

Getting in a quality player is tough without CL football but we have to try. Benteke is not marquee.

    Rodgers not safe yet.......Sepp's available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Next season is Rodgers', "shit or get off the pot", season.

I hope he gets the right backing from FSG this summer in order for him to enter next season with no excuses, aside from our financial and European standing in comparison to the other four teams, etc.

We should still be able to acquire players good enough to compete for fourth, and the players from this year should be more settled.

I'd say Rogers believes himself to be able to coach his squad to perform better than those above us, and part of that could be at cause for our poor transfers last year, but lessons need to be learnt and changes need to made going into next season or heads will roll.

I would have been happy with the likes of Klopp and Ancelotti (never gonna happen imo compared to the chances of getting Klopp) but it's not to be.. I'm not unhappy that Rodgers is staying either though. Yeah true, here's hoping.
