Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Charging port is temperamental as hell- only works with some cables.

Yeah most of the ones that came with the tablets are useless now. I bought a set of these - 5 for under 6 quid. Hopefully they'll be here this side of Christmas.

Has anyone who flashed stock android managed to find an easy solution to meeting the SD card available for app installation?

I restored Fire OS onto one of our Fires, probably will do so on the other. Got a bit fed up with random issues when on stock Android and poor storage management.

Netflix would give random issues, and when I went to reinstall I had forgotten they had removed the app from the app store for rooted devices. Downloaded the APK but still a variety of random issues and shut downs.

So for now, as they're for kids anyway, Fire OS is more than adequate using the kids view.

I upgraded mine for the Alexa integration but I wish I didn't I'd love to be back on stock android.
At least the launcher hijack tool allows me to get away from the Fire OS launcher.

I got a replacement fire 7 from Amazon as my charger port wasn't working properly. Great customer service from Amazon. I had Google play installed on the old one but when I tried to do the same with the new one, some of the files didn't work - "problem parsing package" whatever that means. So, can anyone post a link to the most up-to-date way of installing Google play etc. I think there's 4 files to be downloaded.

Yeah i think it's Allcast they recommend!

But a question i want to ask, as i couldn't download certain apps like Playstore but modbro was ok,

I've activated the Unknown Sources in Security
to allow apps downloaded, also there was something else i tried, alas it didn't work either as i was getting nowhere by pressing the install button
as i didn't have any of those anti dimming apps, as i only have the one app :P

Actually i tried that earlier just to see, by going to google.com/chromecast/setup/
Which leads me to tap the button below to get the Google Home app

In which it tells me: This app is incompatible with your device :o

Tell me something i don't know

I've found this site by accident & gave me a tip on what was wrong with not installing, this tip already given by Dodzy earlier on in the thread, but it highlighted one thing in it:
    xexclamation-point-l-70x80.png.pagespeed.ic.dYueV8_eqv.png
During testing we did discover one issue. If you have trouble installing the files because the "INSTALL" button will not work (when you tap on it and nothing happens), or other problems with the files installing/running, try turning your Kindle Fire off and then back on. That fixed the issue for us, so if you experience this problem hopefully it will work for you too.

Have a look at it, no doubt someone will find it handy too :)

Do you mind me asking when you bought it. I've had terrible problems with both mine. Yes I got it replaced (multiple times) . But now they are outside warranty and just wondering if the newer models still have the same issue?

    It's a real fault with them I think :-(

Also annoyed me that I bought a new unit and a month later sent a refurbished unit as a replacement. Great they replaced it. But still it was only a month old and brand new

Slow to buy 2 new ones now as a result...

They cant do that. Its the old 3 r's rule that applies.....repair, replace or refund. If its a replacement for a 1 month old item then it must be replaced with a new model.

Got mine just before Christmas last year, got it replaced around August due to faulty charge port. But mine was a new one not a refurbished one, I'd definitely complain about that. Very unlike Amazon as their customer service is normally excellent.

Mine has been getting very hot and the battery is draining really fast. Anyone have any idea why this might be? Haven't downloaded anything unusual. Have it almost a year.

Thank you ... didn't realise weak WiFi could be the cause, using hotel WiFi so hopefully all good when I get home!

No problem, it was Dodzy that had started this off first with his links on Play Store that made it easy, i just found this by accident, by looking up something on it, as it was similar to his, but the 'INSTALL button' part was handy to know!

Also i noticed something else now after adding another app, (whether it's due to a Fire update?) after restarting it, if it still shows that you can't install it, leave it for a few mins & come back to it, swipe it if it's sleeping & you should see that the Install button is no longer greyed out, i've tried this out twice & it works.

It was only when i left it down in frustration when it wouldn't install, i thought WTF is wrong now, & left it alone, til i came back to it & thought i'd check it, before putting it away for the nite!

    Hope that helps too :P

It's set up now, but how do you stop chromecast to stop flickering, as the cast won't stay put?

Is there some setting on the tv or ?
    Nearly there :(

Oh... I didn't question it as I'd had the square deal extended warranty before on the kindle reader and that was always a refurbished item. So when I got the kindle fire replaced as refurbished, I didn't think about it.. I was used to it.

Good to know for the future. Too late now I think as too much time has gone by...

Hi folks, i bought the 10" version for my daughter for xmas.
I wasnt aware for youtube i would need to sideload the play store, while it looks very easy to do im wondering if i should just get a refund from argos and get a similarly priced andriod tablet instead for her?

I've a Fire 7 tablet for nearly 12 months now and find it great for the price I paid for it. First thing I did with it was install Google Play Store and then install my favorite apps. Yes it has adverts but I just ignore them rather than trying to root it.

I'd say you will struggle to find any 10" tablet as good as the Fire at that price.
