I just noticed that ITV 3 & 4 have been removed from the ROI epg does anyone know why? I assume money may be a reason.

wtf. why remove them now? tbh nothing really surprises me about this sham that is the RoI EPG. is ITV3 still on the ntl EPG?

It looks like they have taken advantage of our comfort zone.
When ITV 4 was added to the line up, it was a surprise(ITV 3 had only arrived in place of PLUS) and many on the boards believed it might not last.
It looks like they were right.

Maybe ITV refused to pay for EPG placement in Ireland or perhaps TV3 had them removed through court action.
Either way, this is very strange and the Sky platform has taken two steps backwards in Ireland.

A freesat card won't get Sky+ recording facilities.

I think you need to re-calibrate your sarcasm detector.

No you won't. They are FTA anyway. Tune them in as "other channels" on a Digibox using the above Charles Slane's guide available at:

well that decides it then. I was gonna ring sky and cancel as My half price comeback to sky offer is over on feb 28th and with the 30 days notice thingy I will be ringing them and re inserting my uk ftv card.. so long sly. It is a bad move on their behalf.

Hmmm... there are big things happening at the moment with the sale of CanWest's TV3 shares.

TV3 are taking court action against ITV for going Free to Air (even though they are part-owned by ITV. Maybe they've pushed ITV to remove them (how, I don't know).

Maybe ITV weren't aware they were even on the Irish EPG and have just looked at the bill (stranger things have happened).

Maybe ITV are expecting to take full control of TV3. In which case TV3 would effectively become ITV Ireland and ITV2, 3 and 4 might be added to the EPG in a few weeks in a blaze of publicity and cross-promotion.

Maybe UTV have forced their hand. UTV are also in with shout for the CanWest shares. If ITV don't buy the CanWest shares they have to offer them for sale, in which case UTV could buy all the shares and TV3 would effectively become UTV South. UTV don't really have anything to gain by ITV 2, 3,and 4 being on the EPG (they're owned by ITV).

The possible combinations of the outcome of the CanWest sale are many and varied, but all of them have implications for the availability of any of the ITV channels on the Irish EPG.

Interestingly UTV also own TalkSport and it went free-to-air yesterday for the first time.

Things are happening in the backkground which will affect what channels we see and what programmes we see on them.

    Interesting times.....

I got it okay, I just thought some people who know less about it might not have understood.

You can tune them in so they're available in Other Channels. You'll miss out on a lot of features (Sky+, personal planner, etc), but at least you'll be able to view them.

    ITV 3: 10906V SR 22000 FEC 5/6
    ITV 4: 10758V SR 22000 FEC 5/6

It makes FTA PVR boxes (With satellite tuners, not the analog kind in currys) and FTA receivers look attractive for those spare connections on a Sky+ LNB :)

well just cancelled. she asked why and I told her it was because they removed itv3 and 4 and my half price offer was up. she spent nearly 10 minutes offering me everything except half price so when she finally asked again did I really want to cancel I said yes seeing as sky had removed itv3 and 4 without any notice..

    Ah bugger!

Wonder what will happen with my new favourites setting though. I had ITV3 and ITV4 as favourites. Will have to check if they appear now when I select TV guide and press the blue button.

I just phoned them and the automated system said I would be waiting about 18 mins to speak to a sub-human so I am venting my spleen here instead.

maybe canwest are using their muscle and getting back at granada/itv for going fta or not buying their stake in tv3. I would imagine behind the scenes there is very bad feeling between the two of them.

i'm finding it hard to understand why guys are upset over this as ITV no longer pay for an EPG placement so it was to be expected that this would happen at some point

    Curiouser and curiouser ...

From today's Irish Times TV Listings -

"HTV - The Irish Times can no longer list HTV programming as ITV plc advise that certain ITV Regional Variations will only be made available to UK publications."

Looks like somebody is playing hardball !!!

Im gonna cancel my half price sub too and tell them its cause of loosing itv 3+4 --- I thought EU law states that any satellite reciever must have the capability of tuning in FTA channels! -Its high time that sky learnt that its other channels function is not inline with EU law.

You can still tune them in. They're just not on the EPG.

AHA! This might explain why listings for ITV 2 and 3 have also disappeared from the Metro newspaper!

As pointed out earlier, a severe inconvience to those with Sky+.
