Should I really give up flying?

Did anyone else see the programme on BBC2 with the above title?

I thought it was quite interesting. But it didn't really convince me to change my ways. Flying is still my environmental weak point

Living on a small island is my excuse. It's really the only way to get anywhere. Having said that I'm determined to replace 2 or 3 flights to the UK this year with the boat & train alternative.

Yes, it was a good overview of the subject.

Clearly the growth in air travel cannot be sustained. Equally clearly it would be electoral suicide to say so. (The Green Party silence is shameful but understanable.)

A point that is seldom mentioned is that if cheap air travel ceases, overseas holiday homes become worthless. Ironically they become worthless anyway with global warming; it will just take a bit longer.

Richard Branson could be dismissed as being self interested but his point that long haul alone could be justified was a good one.

Should I really give up flying?
