Elton calls for internet blackout
04/08/2007 - 17:39:19

Elton John is convinced the only way to save music is to shut the internet down.

The British pop superstar fears there's "too much technology available" and claims that it is starving musical creativity.

"I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut the whole Internet down for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span," he said.

"I'm sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today."

Elton looks forward to a musical revolution - from a new punk.

"We need something like jazz or hip-hop or punk to come along and shake things up… I think the disenchantment of this moment has got to come out," he said.

"I hope whatever it produces will be even fiercer than punk. We need something to do that - and we need it quickly."
Idiot!

Yeah, shut down the best possible medium for propagating the experimental, unusual, unpopular music he's seeking. F*cking moron.

Man thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard!

Lets "turn off" possibly the most important invention in human history! Even the idea of turning it off (like there is a switch somewhere) is ludicrous!

Turn off all the root name servers..

From wikipedia..

If all root name serves would stop answering queries

In that hypothetical case the Internet will not suddenly grind to a halt. If absolutely nothing is done to correct the situation every hour about 2% of all queries will not be answered, 2% at the end of the first hour, 4% at the end of the second hour and so forth until 48h after the root name servers stop answering queries no DNS names can be resolved anymore.
