I never liked the current colour scheem for Aer Lingus planes. If Dublin Bus can get away with changing their colour schemes with the weather why can't Aer lingus do it after more than 30 years.

    Two words: Brand recognition

Aer lingus is a world wide brand. dublin bus is not.

people see green and think ireland, so aer lingus must keep itself green in order to maintain brand recognition throughout the world. remeber alot of business comes from the states.

They have had different colour schemes though not very different to each other, a couple as far as i know, white with green, a variant in the current one and the current one....remember the dot com ones also? :) They were mank though only 2 were ever done of the 737s...

    Theres a few examples :)

But as above branding is very important so the basic green has to be there. Would be nice to see it refreshed in some way though, its been the same for a while.

The current EI livery only came into being in the early to mid 90s. I dont know the exact year though but im sure someone here will know.

I think the current livery is pretty good...it could do with a tidy up here and there and the Aer Lingus website when compared to the likes of KLM or Air France pails but that's another story I suppose.

1996 or 1997, not 100% sure. I flew with them in 1995 and they had the old scheme (white shamrock).

American's livery is great. Especially with the red, white and blue stripe beneath the cockpit windows.

    I also like Swiss.

I actually quite like the EI colour scheme to be honest, its nice and simple .

That is a great question , I agree with the American Airlines .

My out and out fav..........not sure , I still like BA ( I know a bit sad ) . LH when its clean and new , looks wonderful on a MD11/DC10 it takes some beating for out and out smartness.

My least fav would be AF , just seems too old now , as does AZ although they have a few MD80s knocking around in a revamped one now ( the cheatline moved lower and made to look sharper )

I once flew on an All Nippon B747 that was a mad pink pokomon scheme, I regret not getting a photo of it now.

Pink? hahaa! Excuse my ignorance but who are AZ?

AZ is Alitalia, the Italian national airline.

The EI livery does not need to be changed. It is very simple,it is very clean and uncluttered especially compared to some of the recent LCCs in Europe. And most especially it is Brand Recognition. Green means Ireland. And it may surprise people how well the green airbuses (airbii?) stand out in airports around the States and Europe. Most airlines have the colour on the bottom with white on top. By reversing this EI have an aircraft that stands out.

The A330s arrived in 1993 and were initially in the older green with white shamrock colours. These colours looked outdated even then.

I for one hope that EI keep this livery until it begins to look dated rather until someone gets bored of it and wants a change.

Incidently did anyone see the Lufthansa retro aircraft in Dublin last month. It is a A320 done in its 1960s livery. SAS also have one in theirs. Very nice looking nostalgic aircraft.

    Now heres a dodgy livery:

I really like the Alitalia livery but that's maybe due to the Lancia Stratos!

I think the whole BA corporate image is fantastic.

Ryanair's logo seems to be a rehash of the UDR's.

    Theres a few examples :)

There were actually 4 dot.com aircraft. Two B737-500 and 2 B737-400. Think it was EI-CDC and EI-CDF,EI-BXD and EI-BXB. I can remember during the Willie Walsh era getting a phone call from on high demanding to know why one of the Dot.com B734s was sitting on the ramp rather than flying around Europe advertising the website. (It was due a regular service and thus was the designated standby aircraft to try keep its flying hours down) Incidently those aircraft were all leased out after EI gave them back, they mostly white livery made them easier to lease out. EI-CDF is with some Russian airline, spotted it in Budapest last year.

The pic I kept in the quote above is of EI-CZW. It and its sister EI-CZV were short term leases hence why they just got the green shamrock on the tail. They were ex-Swissair aircraft and had been registered in Ireland to prvent them being seized by airports who were still owed money from the collapse of Swissair. They still had their Swiss reg written inside a compartment in the galley. I'm not sure if anyone here got to fly on them, they had a wardrobe in front of Row 2DEF instead of having a row 1DEF,they mainly operated DUB-LHR.
