PC World have gone and updated a whole load of prices with the result that a lot of them now rival Komplett and Dabs once you factor in the postage from those sites, and some of them, are even lower. Granted, some of the prices are still high, but all in all I was very surprised. I saw:

    256mb X1650Pro DDR3 - 29.99
    256mb 6200 DDR2 - 24.99
    512mb 9800GT - 119.99
    512mb 9600GT OC Edition - 129.99
    384mb 8800GS Alpha Dog Edition - 84.99
    512mb 9500GT DDR2 - 69.99
    256mb 9500GT DDR3 - 69.99*

Pretty decent especially for someone who doesn't buy online. There was more new prices, but I didn't catch them all.

*Think, can't fully remember this one might have been 79.

    Any Ati cards?

Their pricing was pretty lackluster in comparison apart from the X1650 and I think a reasonably priced 2400XT, the Hd3870 card was still way overpriced and they don't stick the HD48x0 cards - at least not here anyway. seems to be mostly Nvidia getting the cuts. They stock way more Nvidia cards anyway

still, major move in the right direction. :)

They have the 4850's and they are around €220 I think. I think there's also an 8600gt 256MB DDR3 model for €30 (handy for someone looking for a half decent cheap card) but I'd have to check. I'll check some of the other prices tomorrow.

I'd pick up the 9800GT for the PC in the parents house if that's the right price - would be handy for when I'm home.

Today it's 124.99 but thats definitely the right price, still a good one. PNY Brand.

    Another one to add to list, HD2400XT 256mb DDR3 - 29.99

I got my passively cooled HD 4850 from Scan.co.uk, worked out about 150 after shipping, great card.

Ooops. Meant to post up. It's the 256MB DDR3 version like I said above and it is €30. Problem is you have to make your way up to sligo as it's the only place that has it.

    Further price drops.

    XFX 8800GS Alpha Dog Edition 384MB - 69.99.

HD2600Pro AGP - 59.99. Of particular interest to those with older AGP systems. Decent price for an AGP card.

Terror, of the popular games released in the last year, which of them would play on that 8800GS (1400*1050) ? Cheers

All of them, really, it's an excellent card for lower resolutions. Now, that said, it's not going to play Crysis at high settings at that resolution, but for most current releases, for example World at War or Left 4 Dead, relatively high settings at 1440x900 is perfectly manageable.

If you can buy online you can get better deals, for example this 4670 is a bit more expensive when you factor in delivery but also a better card. For a walk in store though, 69.99 for an 8800GS is exceptionally good value. And if 70 was your maximum budget including delivery, no online store will even beat that in terms of value.
