Does anyone know when this is coming out here? The Irish Apple Store site doesn't list a price or date.

Should be soon, I was talking to my local o2 shop and they said early July.
Very interested in the ability to remotely delete/ find when lost facility.

I heard official date of Release date is soon too, I wanted to know about it coming and being available for RTG customers on 02! Emailed 02 and they could tell me nothing. I wasn't half disappointed! :) Can't wait, System 3.0 is the business!

uk date is 19th, it's believed we are one of the 6 countries mentioned to get it on the 26th.

Based on the fact that we weren't on the slides for July or August shown here this seems reasonable.

I heard it's very glitchy though. It's a fantastic looking device though. I think Apple still have the upper hand with the App Store, there are so many great Apps for the iPhone.

Oh OK. I'll look out for it when the stream of the event is up.

This is what i have read about the UK price plan for existing customers

Got an iPhone 3G in the UK? Want to upgrade to a whizzy new iPhone 3GS on 19th June? Well, you can, but there's a cost beyond that of the handset itself.

Specifically, you'll have to pay O2 to end your existing contract before they'll let you sign up to a new one.

O2 revealed the news on its official Twitter feed, telling people that how much they have to pay will depend on how long they have left on their existing contract.

"The early upgrade cost is likely to be monthly cost x months left on your contract, but specifics may vary slightly," they explained.

What that would mean is if you bought an iPhone 3G when it went on sale last July, on a £35 18-month contract, you'll have to pay more than £200 to end it six months early, and that's before the actual cost of buying the new iPhone 3GS.

Which is? In a separate tweet, O2 revealed that the iPhone 3GS 16GB will cost up to £184.98 depending which tariff you sign up to, and the 32GB model will cost up to £274.23. Those highest prices relate to the 18-month £29.38 and £34.26 tariffs, another tweet explained.

In short, the operator is telling its keenest iPhone customers that they'll have to pay more than £385 to get a 16GB iPhone 3GS this month, and more than £475 to get the 32GB model.

Sorry O2, but what's changed since last summer, when first-gen iPhone owners were allowed to switch to the 3G version without paying to cancel their contract?

It's the change in policy we don't understand. And it's not even like iPhone owners are being disloyal - they're signing up to another lengthy contract with O2!

Not cool. Not cool at all. If another UK operator is also selling the 3GS come Christmas, we can see a number of disgruntled early adopters churning from O2 as a result of this.

O2 Ireland operate a fair bit differently to O2 UK, so I don't think you can read too much into UK plans.

That being said, I think they'll treat it like any other phone. If you are eligible for an upgrade, you get a subsidised price, if you're not, you don't. That won't stop people complaining though.

That's true... O2 IRL charge a hell of a lot more!

I think you can be sure that it will be more expensive with less service than the UK. High ARPUs have to be maintained!

Anyone thinking of opting for a 8gb 3g will need to work fast, word is the 8gb is phased out once the current stock is gone.

O2 in the process up updating the website. Now with two iphone links but one is blank and one with firefly.

Debating whether or not to pay off my last 5 months with vodafone and grab one of these. Really cannot decide.

The iPhone 3G looks blank, but if you move the cursor around you can see a link in there, and it pops up a notification form (incomplete). I assume you fill it in and they'll inform you when the phone is available... Looking forward to seeing prices

Will this release bring down the prices of the iphone overall? I was planning on getting an ipod touch but if this release means a decent price drop I might hold off for a bit.

    Error 404 reported here.

Can't make up my mind whether or not to ditch Vodafone and grab one of these. Will cost me about €100 to leave Vodafone.

I had a look around the source of the page mentioned by Stee and found this image. No info on price or availability, I'm afraid.

And here's the form that should appear in the popup. Looks like there will be no info on the new iPhone for a while.

Yikes - O2 Uk prices look expensive - does anybody know if they have jumped much from the 3G prices?

Theres a text overlay on the image, you can see it if you select all. Still the prices for the old one though!

Thats the US though, i was talking about here. most likely what will happen is both 8/16 gb 3g will be phased out leaving only 16/32gb 3GS.

They will definitely be keeping an 8GB 3G model. See here (bottom of page): http://www.apple.com/ie/iphone/iphone-3g-s/index.html

seems very unlikely since Apple announced the 8G 3G as the cheaper part of the range yesterday, implying it will be kept on for the time being at least.

It sold out on day 1, mostly because they got a pitiful amount of stock: not more than 3 or 4 per store, depending on location. They had a waiting list that took months to clear and stock levels didn't normalise until around September of 2008. O2 claim they've learned their lesson and such a scenario won't happen again, but that remains to be seen.
