Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ID of old plane please

    This has been cleared by PaintDoctor.

    The attached photo belongs to a child I teach whose great uncle was in the Air Corps. He is the chap in the dark coat. The child is doing a project on his family history and would like to include this guy.
    Can someone here please identify what type of plane they are standing in front of?

    Are there any existing records from the Air Corps he could perhaps check for information on him?

    It's a DeHavilland DH60 Cirrus Moth of which four served in the Air Corps between 1926 to 1935. Cirrus being the type of engine fitted. The picture appears to show one of these four aircraft which were used as basic trainers by the Air Corps.

    What is puzzling is that he is in civilian dress as are the other aviators. But of course at the time, there was some crossover and Baldonnel was used by civilians for a time.

    Hi OP, The gents on Franks site say its a DH 60 Gipsy Moth, possibly Irish Aero Club that was based at Baldonnel and Reg is possibly EI-AAH

    A quick recheck appears to reveal that it is in fact a Gypsy Moth from the configuration of the intake on the engine. Which would exclude the Air Corps Moths. It could be EI-AAH or AAI or AAJ or one of a number of other Gypsy Moths.
