    Here goes!

For some reason my browser will not allow me to go to google or any oterh search engine only yahoo by the looks of things?

Even when i use yahoo when i search i get a "page not available"

I presume this is something to do with a programme or conflict or something ... but i cant seem to find it,

I have uninstalled everything i can think off but still the same.

Does any one have any idea??

    regards

what computer security are you using ? norton/mc afee/ kaspersky/ ? probably a security setting thats stopping you getting onto these other sites.

Clean Your hosts file and run MalwareBytes, could be Your pc is infected

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭zenno

also you should do a spyware scan with malwarebytes to rule out browser hijackers and such. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

pogmothoin you bet me to it.

Forget Avg, it wont check the hostsfile, use malwarebytes, it specifically looks for this type of malware

if you find nothing with malwarebytes download adaware free and scan with that. adaware is very good at finding browser hijackers and spyware and the rest. takes time to scan but your better off doing so just to make sure your sys is reasonably clean.

You still also need to clean the hosts file (at least have a look and see if its clean), a hosts file redirect sounds exactly like what You describe

Open My Computer, browse the c drive to Windows\System32\drivers\etc right click and open the hosts file with notepad, paste it here

Happy days, that worked!! Any idea what would have caused that to happen?
Was this caused by a virus?

    Thanks a lot to everyone,

    Thanks a lot to everyone,

it was obviously caused by these virus/malware infections you found.
use a better security solution. kaspersky internet sucurity 2010 is the best i think. but there are better ones but you need a good understanding of their settings. avg just won't cut it these days. spybot search and destroy is a good one to block them messing with the host files and the latest free adaware is very good and they are free but kaspersky internet security is only a 30 day trial but does the job. no good really having an internet security feature without a good spyware scanner.

your on the ball there pogmothoin.

    Yep,
Windows needs maintenance, run malwarebytes and ccleaner every 2-3 weeks. Avg scans for viruses but it doesn't do a great job with malware, no harm running another malware scanner from time to time.

Ok here is something else maybe connected??? My Nero wont work any more either?
It keeps asking for the admin to allow burning rights? I am the only user ie admin .. i set the rights to allow everyone to burn, but it still wouldnt work, i tried uninstalling it, and even reinstalled a older version, but the same problem, Do you think this is connected?

Thanks for all your help guys.

I've never found Nero to be a great program. It made itself famous for allowing the latest version be uploaded to the pirate sites (by themselves), but its not a great program IMO. I can recommend CdXPBurner, basic but fully functional, easy to use and free

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭zenno

well if you really want nero
uninstall nero while writing down your nero serial if you have one. download ccleaner here http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
at ccleaner install uncheck the toolbar box if you dont want it. when installed open it and on the left click registry then click scan for issues bottom left. when it's finished click fix selected issues and it will ask you do you want to backup the files click yes and save it in your documents or wherever then finish cleaning. restart the pc and try reinstalling nero. the problem could be a registry setting file or two stopping the burn rights. try it anyway cause ccleaner is a great little tool also add it during install to your recycle bin handy to have there

one more thing if you still have the nero problem use this tool to remove all traces of nero don't worry it's clean... http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Nero-Clean-Tool-Bundle.shtml

If you start using Spybot it'll lock the hosts file from changes like the ones above.
