The course only started this year, so you're gonna get few responses here tbh unless some people who do Law or PS post.

Well I do law... is there anything in particular you want to know about the law side?

I do Law and Politics! Great course I think, though I may be slightly biased! We do Tort Law, Irish Legal System and Contract Law(starting in two weeks) for law subjects and Political Science, Sociology and Economics for our social science ones!
Fairly small class, only 25 of us (there was meant to be 20 but I think the A-Level results being delayed meant they increased places to accomodate students from northern ireland that got 600 points equivalent, could be wrong here) small classes are great because we got to know everyone very quickly, the places for next year is set at 20 too I believe!
I like this course because I didn't want to do just law and we'll still be doing the subjects required for Blackhall Place/Kings Inns should you wish to pursue a career in the legal profession!
Theres around 18 hours a week I think (don't want to find out the exact amount), more than just law but the same as law and business as far as i'm aware, but law requires a lot of reading so don't let the seemingly short hours fool you! The only bad thing was when we had two essays in the last two weeks and the people who did law didn't and thus could enjoy the end of year events!:( and also our midterm economics exams!
We're kind of between two departments but we've always been warmly welcomed in the law school, we even had a coffee morning with the lecturers and Des Ryan is the coordinator for this course who is really nice! Knows all our names and all haha!
Anything else you want to know?

I'm guessing your in the first year so for it?

Tbh I was originally planing on doing Government in UCC followed by either a postgrade in law or hopfully going for a PHD in politics((Or atleat if things go perfect heh :D))and I was really set on staying in Cork but when I came across this it really got me thinking, and I saw how I could knock off 4 years in education.

But around how many points was it for those who applied this year, and around how many do you think it will be next year?

No, but I think an indexing of the threads about course subjects would be nice and would stop repetitive questions reappearing.

Better still, let a forum die because people are afraid to ask questions to which answers may have changed!

Yeah i'm in first year, it's the first year of this course so it's only us!:D
If you don't mind me saying your route sounds like a lot of extra hassle and like you said 4 extra years...! what do you want to do as a career? For this course, we do law and politics for the first three years then we can specialise in the final year or else keep the two, I'll probably do law but then again politics is said to get more interesting once we get past the "introduction to political science" module.

The points this year was 555 but we go up to 600 and the majority had 560 and above so I think the points could indeed go up this year, only speculation but if they stick to the 20 places this time it's likely!

On the note of the points being 555+ I think I'll have to slowly back away.Maybe If it were a hundred points less I could have had a chance but I dought I could get that.

And um,I'd love to get into politics when I'm older,I know you dont need any qualifications to be involved but if doing which ever course helps me understand the system and field more clearer then I'll do it.That being said I'll guess I'll take the long way round:o

Thanks for the help guys :)

Ah don't limit yourself this early in the year, peoples results can alter dramatically between the mocks and the real thing, and you hardly have mocks even done yet? If I were you I'd put it down first anyway because if you do get the points and you don't have it on your CAO it will drive you mad for the rest of your life! Sure what have you got to lose!;)

I'll still put it down yeah :o but I'm not great in secodary school work :(,I will work hard but to even get over 400 would be difficult enough for me,let alone 500 ..Bleh we'll see anyway...I'm realy hitting the books from this term on anyway.
