This thread is basically for asking a question which you want answered, but it does not lead to chat. Basically, if you want to know about the ratings of a PPV, who Bret Hart wrestled in his first match for WCW or whatever, put it here.

Much like the daily news thread, if someone feels something is discussion worthy, by all means start a thread for that.

This may work, it may not.

    Ok, i'll start this off.

When the lights go out and Taker suddenly appears in the ring, where does he come from. I've heard varying opinions such as from under the ring, from the crowd or that he is dressed as a cameraman ringside etc but does anyone have a definative answer?

It'd have to be under the ring, as the 'lights out' segment only lasts a few seconds. Far too short to be changing clothes or running down the ramp. And he'd stand out if he was in the crowd, waiting. Whenever I've read fan notes of a show, Taker would run down and get under the ring during the ad break beforehand. But there'd be a distraction (lights out, video package etc) so (most of) the crowd doesn't see him do it.

I think the song was AC/DC's Highway to Hell, and it was Summerslam 1998

ok when I was at Summerslam last year and taker appeared instead of hardy at the ladder match this is what happened....before the match started, they cut to the big screen to play the promo between punk and hardy while the arena goes black apart from the big screen, while this was playing I happen to see a load of security escort a tall person in a hoodie down to the ring, its obv taker and he hides under the ring till its his cue, but while the vid is playing your attention is diverted for him to make his entrance, tho have to say even tho I knew it was him, i was still suprised when the switch was made!

Are there any differences between the following match types:

    No holds barred
    Extreme Rules
    Street Fight
    Hardcore
    No disqualification

Hardcore matches are named due to the hardcore/garbage style of wrestling in the match and they originally took place in unusual environments compared to a normal wrestling match. Extreme Rules is PG-WWE's version ofd a hardcore match. It's mainly a watered down version of a hardcore match. The No Holds Barred match was made so the wrestlers couldn't be disqualified and, originally, didn't involve weapons. The Street Fight match was made so wrestlers could fight in their normal "street" clothes but it has now turned into the same gimmick as a hardcore match. A no-DQ match mainly takes place in the ring.

Street Fight usually has wrestlers wrestle in their street clothes, and is also falls-count-anywhere. And all of the above usually include foreign objects. "No DQ" and "No Holds Barred" is more "usual" items, like chairs, announce table; that kind of thing, while all others, you'll probably see a Kendo Stick, trash can, 'rarer' items not usually lying around the ring.

Of course WWE/TNA etc change the rules of the archetypes to suit whatever they're booking that night :)

Diving Headbutt (although Primo uses it sometimes). I think anyhow.

Did Stone Cold Steve Austin really have issues with Brock Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero?

I only know the Lesnar side of the story.
Austin was pissed at creative because he didn't agree with the way they were feuding him with Lesnar. Austin refused to work a match that he was scheduled to lose and explained that it would make him look weak to lose to a rookie. And that the stage wasn't set for Lesnar to beat a star like Austin. He eventually walked out when they wanted him to lose to Lesnar.
I don't think it was an issue with Lesnar rather an issue with Creative in the way they were pushing Lesnar to the moon.

I've always been curious about WWE's ability to prevent certain names being used. Obviously they cannot prevent wrestlers using their real names in other promotions, such as Kurt Angle, but say hypothetically a wrestler decided to use his middle name and his mother's maiden name for his character. Could they block a person doing so in another promotion?

From what I've heard in Austin's interviews it was more that he was scheduled to lose to Lesnar on RAW, clean, without build-up, and Austin wasn't having any of that -- he did say that he was fine with losing to Lesnar if it built to a PPV but I have my doubts about that. Austin was pretty bitter by 2002; as his time in the direct spotlight was up (98, 99, Unforgiven 2000 - start of 2002) and WWE wanted to push newer stars. Although this scheduled loss was still in the infancy of Lesnar's monster push.

It really just depends on what ring-name the wrestler was using in WWE and who owns the rights to the name. WWE can't copyright a real name (hence Daniel Bryan) but as long as the name isn't the same as on the person's passport, WWE can copyright it.

Say Kurt Steven Angle, who's mother was (for example) Deborah Morgan before becoming Deborah Angle.

    Here's some names :

Kurt Angle : WWE can't copyright
Curt Angle : WWE can copyright
Kurt Morgan : WWE can copyright
Steven Angle : WWE can copyright
Steven Morgan : WWE can copyright.

Anyway, interestingly enough, if you slightly alter your name, you can copyright it - see Rhyno (now Rhino in TNA), Christian using Christian Cage in TNA; he could've spelled it differently - say Chrystian...

Austin was VERY protective of his character, some blame him for Jericho's forgettable title reign in 2002. I share your cynicism about Austin been cool about losing clean on PPV as well. :(

I dunno if their was any bad blood between Eddie and Austin, their was always rumors they would feud but it never materialized. :(

I think that in Eddy's book he said that when he returned to WWE for his second run and he was clean that Austin was initially apprehensive about working with him because he remembered the days when he was unreliable. When he realised that Eddy had changed then they got along

What were the original plans for WWF Invasion, before Triple H and Benoit got injured? I would presume Triple H would be in the main event, probably replacing Kane, so what would Kane have done? Or would he have replaced Jericho and have Jericho and Benoit remain the tag champs in a match?

(Sorry, I watched Backlash 2001 - Invasion over the past few days)

I read/saw somewhere a long while ago that Austins beef was that Lesner was spanking everyone and Vince wanted Austin to be one of the spankees. He balked at this maintaining that he was the top guy and should be the last person Lesner should have beaten to cement his image as a monster heel instead of being (what he saw as being) a mid card jobber.(Austin I mean)

I believe they have a seperate set up in storage in the UK for tours in this part of the world

I believe they transport all equipment for all tours via heavy-duty plane. An example would be a tour of the UK. WWE neither owns or hire's a heavy duty plane for these kind of tours. All equipment e.g the ring, ropes, titantron, safety mats etc.. are put in the bottom half/section of the plane while all the superstars, refs and other personal are at the top half/section of the plane.

A good ref shouldn't be biased to anyone but have something that makes them unique (e.g. Charles Robinson's nickname is lil'Naitch due to his hair) and A WWE referee makes about $50 per show

You sure they only make $50 per show?

There is no way they could live off that.

Sorry, I was wrong with that.

    Just found this:
The WWE referees make about $1000 and the TNA officials working on a smaller budget would make around $750 for Impact and the ppvs.

THe referee isn't there to officiate the match though as obviously it is predetermined. He is there to remind the wrestlers of upcoming moves, make sure it keeps flowing, make sure he is position for any bumps, that his back is turned for any illegal activity etc... The referee is just as much a "sports entertainer" as any of the wrestlers...

Also, i'd imagine that the referees are on a pretty fixed salary.... have no real idea though.

Could someone explain to me why the watered down version of 'ECW' was recently cancelled on American TV and whether it will be picked up by anyone else?

Also, could I ask, what happened to Mr Perfect in 2002, when he left the WWE for the last time about 6 months before his death....why did they release him at that time? His last match was apparently in the UK against Goldust...a dark match....does anyone know if this is available anywhere?
