Came across this while reading again.

For those of you who have been in the MMO scene a while will reconise them. For those that don't it's something to look out for when your signing up for a beta.

    DAWN
    http://www.glitchless.com/
Claimed to be an online game with permadeath and players randomly spawned to parents that were already in the game.

The sheer lunacy to the mechanics of the game (for example you were allowed cage new born player babies or put them in catapaults and fire them at enemies). The term fetus-pault is a slang term from this game. He had also claimed to crack time travel with ping times that would of had to occured in the past to be real.

It wasn't sure if it was a hoax to get cash out of people or a childs dream out of control. It was later found out that the owner of the company who claimed to work for the military on missile systems did in fact just do a high school project on them for the ROTC (or whatever it's called at that level).

Despite all the hype of demo being released of the game it turned out to be an avi of a blank 3d landscape that the camera was moving around in. Something I could do in 5 minutes.

(might be getting this confused with the other but...) Also one of the pictures of artwork that had a dragon over trees (which was supposed to be the engine) turned out to be cut and pasted into the picture and stolen from a famous D&D artwork.

The scary thing is, despite claims of it being released in 2001, the website still advertises it is being built. Jeffy also runs an online webgame which is pretty basic in what it does but I believe he actually makes money from it.

    RUNEQUEST

This one was funny and looked a lot like a scam. They claimed the moon on a stick and had two very badly done Quake 1 level shots as pictures for the game. Then offering a beta for a set price. But you did get a money off token to buy golf clubs.

Turned out the guy who ran the site owned a golf company and his teenage son was the one running the game. Not sure if the company still exists but the site now sells a program that displays your browser cache.

    found this link...

Lists the two above and more that never made it or were hoaxes. Intresting to see how many didn't make it.
