ok, i been thinking about getting a better
graphics card than the piece o crap i already own, namely an ati rage+

yesterday i came across a voodoo banshee in electronic boutique for only 99quid.
im not sure what make, but it cant be that bad for just 99pound.

amyway, just wondering if anyone knew if this was worth buying. does it support open gl etc and make you into a total ninja...... not that i need the advantage!

oh yeah, and if someone can fix me modem for me, i might even make it back onto the net someday!

    cheers

I don't think it's that good. I nearly freaked when I saw it here and it was half the price of what I paid for the V2 card I have. I think it's a V2+Video card, so the memory is shared. Either way I recommend getting a second opinion.

AT the moment the Banshee is very close in performance to the Voodoo2's but you will ose out later on. But as a combo 2d-3d card I would reakon its one of the better ones out there wwman.

Oh btw wwman I have a CD of yours I forgot to give it to SheroN at QP :P

    All the best,

    Gandalf.

I reckon you should go for a voodoo2 - you've already got a 2D card, so a dedicated 3D card makes more sense. The banshee is slower than the voodoo2 - and with the games coming out, the gap in performance will widen, as the Banshee is missing several key features, such as Multitexturing. If you've got a REALLY high spec machine (400Mhz like) then go for a TNT - it's an excellent card, but its performance scales very steeply with processor speed, whilst a voodoo2 performs very well across all processor speeds. A single TNT will allow you to run at a higher res than two V2's in SLI.

    how much is it?
can you use it in sli or something?

    It's about 130 quid, no SLI - it's an AGP card, 16MB, 2D/3D.

AFAIR it's on Henry Street on the right hand side as your walking towards Moore Street from O'Connel Street. Of course I could be wrong.... it's been so long ago.

They also have a website http://www.ebworld.com where you can order stuff online.

Okay , I know this is a Quake conversation
but someone mentioned Carmageddon. Or rather problems with it. Is it supposed to look crap? I bought the ten quid budget version in HIV on Grafton Street and I'm bringing the damn thing back tomorrow (after a week of trying to get the graphics fixed). I've now come to the conclusion that maybe there is nothing wrong with my drivers ,graphic card ,DirectX 6 etc. - Maybe it's supposed to be as visually appealing as mouldy yoghurt.

u bought it in HIV? don't bother bringing it back to us as we don't shagging want it

Hey!! CARMAGGEON ROCKS!!! :) ahh still have memories of the multiplayer pile ups.

Yea the graphics are crap on the version you buy. However some time later they wrote a 3dfx patch for it which improves it quite a bit (as well as a good few other patches)... go to
http://www.sci.co.uk/games/carmageddon/car_index.html you should be able to find it somewhere there.

Should look something like this with the patch...

Seening as u already have a 2d card WhiteWash, I'd go for the 12mb Voodoo2 as its only £140 in EB at the moment or so Shaft Say's.Oh and Dr Teeth, check out blue's news for benchmarks on Voodoo2 VS Tnt cards(the v2 kicks ass in all the tests btw),so quit trying to get everyone to buy these poxy tnt cards just coz u got suckered into parting with your pennies :)

Lads its like this. The TNT is a better card than a VooDoo II but 2 VII's in sli will out perform a TNT. The pros for TNT are higher resolutions than a VII or even sli VII's. Better colour depth, the TNT can display 32bit colour whereas VII can only give you 16bit. Cons: gimme a second I'll find one .... oh yeah VooDoo II sli gives u more FPS and can play games made just for GLIDE thats it.

    Dig it !!!
