Wrong. The IRA were trying to unify Ireland by force. After 25 or so years they decided to give up. The only “compromise” was by militant republicans when they abandoned their armed struggle and accepted partition. The British never compromised on the principle that Ireland could only be unified by consent. That is the only reason there is peace in the North.

    Far from never

That only became stated British Policy in the Anglo-Irish Agreement 1985.
The principle that Ireland could only be unified by consent, was seen as a Sell out by the Ulster Unionists and led to mass protest resignations.

Is there Peace in Northern Ireland?

The civil rights in the north were horrible. It is nowhere near like it was today, that is probably more a factor of the lowering of violence then anything else. But Peace? Hardly.
