Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

I have a laptop connected to a projector. The projector is showing what the laptop screen is showing.

I can play flash and quick time full screen and it lays fine on the projector.
However when i tried to play .mpg or .avi (files that require windows media player(9))
they play fine on the laptop screen but there is just a black square where the video should be on the projector.
    Its very frustrating.

This happened to Ronin at megalan with his laptop. Not sure how he fixed it tho :)

Try putting the hardware accleration down to none.

It wasn't set up for dual monitor.(i think. do you mean extended desktop over 2 monitors? it was just mirroring the laptop monitor. Graphics card is SiS 650 it says. 8mb ram.

    Hey,

didn't happen to me at megalan, as my laptop was inside at the admin desk the whole time. I think Bio had some issues with the laptop we used out in the smoking room, but i didn't when i was using that laptop. I was able to play stuff using powerdvd without any problems.

on dell latitudes the fn and f8 key would be a good place to start.
