Has anyone here seen a <a href="http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,5184,4654,00.html">Nokia Observation Camera</a> for sale anywhere?

And what do you think about the uses for them? I'd imagine there are privacy issues but wouldn't it be handy for the local to have one up on the wall so that you could check to see what kind of a crowd is there, if it's packed or if the pals are already enjoying a pint.

Ya, ya, I know that's all very well and good until you're the one spotted on camera strecthed out on the floor behind a bar stool :p

    Thanks,
    -Jim.

    Excellent. Thanks lads.

What do people think about this innovative device? Is it a solution looking for a problem? I'm sure there must a 101 different uses it could be put to.

For instance a neighbour of mine, a farmer, recently installed an expensive wireless CCTV system to keep an eye on his cattle in a remote farmyard. It's a great system but he's still stuck with viewing the 'action' on a big fat monitor in the house.

As you can imagine, there's no real need for continuous video footage most of the time. So in my view, the flexibility of being able to invoke an MMS photo and receive it anywhere far outweighs the benefits of unnessarily high quality video you can only receive in predetermined locations?

At an estimated 50c per picture message, the farmer is better off with his closed system. I thnk this is a product in search of a limited application!

Good point but I'm presuming that when the networks get their interoberability act together, and Meteor has finally launched MMS (which they are expecting to do in July), the price of MMS will see a considerable drop.

Don't forget that current CCTV require some juice to run. Also keep in mind that most farmers (I know) spend most of their day (for at least 9 months of the year) away from their house. What's the point in having CCTV when you're that limited by it? Much better to just whip out your 7650 while driving the tractor around the bottom of the field and invoke 'surveillance on demand'?
