try installing 98 or linux and see if it will install that, that way you can see if its hardware or software orientated.

    Ahh.
I hope thats not an old HDD from your old PC containint win XP?
If it is, you'll have to re-install it.

You might be able to do a Repair (keeping your favourites etc) or if not, put your HD into your old pc and back up all your bits.

I tried it with an old HD that has win2k on it and got the same problem :(

Not too sure, but i think 2k is the same as XP in that way.

    You'll need to re-install anyways.

you are right 2k is same as xp in that way.

it is hard to recove xp though in that way.

best option is to reinstall xp but it should also let you repair it and that should fix it for you.

venom i've the same setup as you what are your memory timings cos when i try to install xp on to my old hard drive (3yrs old 30gig) the pc shuts down i heard its got to do with memory timings and i have the same memory as you.

mine installs 98 fine but trying to run XP setup it shuts down after me typing in administrator password
