Backing up a database

I have a clients coldfusion site(dogs dinner) on a webserver. Im redesigning it and getting rid of the coldfusion elements. However i have to make a backup of the site before i start. Do i have to so anything special to backup the database before i redesign it? is it ok just to connect through ftp and download all the…

.mdb extension?
