Just a gentle reminder that Dalek return to Dublin on Thursday evening, when they play Whelan's with support from Destructo Swarmbots and Papercop...

    DALEK
    with guests: Destructo Swarmbots, Papercop
    Thursday 19 June - Whelan's
Doors 8pm – Tickets €14 (inc. booking fee)

Meet Dälek – from New Jersey – a group who take the collage aesthetic of the early Bomb Squad productions, and infuse hip-hop with the likes of Faust, My Bloody Valentine and the Velvet Underground. Lyrically, Dälek conjures ideas as broadly rooted as Chuck D, The Last Poets and Jack Kerouac. Oktopus’ jagged on-stage presence and intense soundscapes and off-kilter infusions blend perfectly with DJ Still’s insane turntable-ability (scratching with his teeth for starters). Both Dälek's music and lyrics create a whole sound that completes a much bigger picture.

Their most recent release - From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots - strays from hip-hop cliches of materialism. Dälek stay true to themselves in speaking of disenfranchisement with the hip-hop scene, and demonstrate their take on hip-hop as a progressive form of art, not mere commercialism. They have collaborated with Faust, William Hooker Ensemble, Jett Brando, Techno Animal, 2nd Gen, Sofa Surfers, Kid606, Oddateee, Velma, & more.

    File Under: Groundbreaking Hip-Hop.

I reckon leaving your sanity at the door for this one. Papercop... why didn't they just go with Papercup... great band though... if you like your wall of guitar noise shenanigans with a twist of randomness that is.... which I do... I'm sorry, I'm bored... no gigs to run this month.
