My p3 866 is starting to show it's age so I'm upgrading. I was going to go for a p4 until i saw the weekly specials in Komplett, would like some thoughts from the more seasoned pc builders out there if at all possible, I'm not sure if i'm choosing wisely.

    116245 AMD Athlon XP2800+ 2.083 GHz 333 MHz bus 191euro

    116805 EPoX EP-8RDA+ 92euro

    116120 Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL DDR-DIMM 1024MB
    - Kit w/two matched CMX512-3200LL DIMMs 381.31euro
Should I just get the cheaper ram?

    118031 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120GB IDE
    - ATA/100 harddisk 8MB cache 7200RPM 133.10euro
I have the 2mb version of this in my computer now, very quiet, so i'm definately going for this one.

118397 NEC DVD recorder IDE ND-1300, Bulk Black
    - DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW 259.71 euro

    118695 Asus V9560 GeForce FX 5600 ULTRA 128MB 271.67euro

Total 1328.79 exc del from komplett.

I'm also getting a new psu, fan and heatsink. and case from Elara.

Thats all excellent Im getting the same board and cpu myself.

But i would go for cheaper Crucial, Corsair or Twinmos ram if I was you and then with the €150-200 saving you could go for an FX5900 instead the FX5600 is the only weak point I have noticed

Why get a super-quiet hard disk if your graphics card will sound like a hoover?

Those GeForce FXs have problems with noise, even in the later versions (from what I've read out there on the interweb).

    Would you consider:

    114452 Sapphire Radeon 9700 Atlantis 128MB
    - AGP, ATI 9700, DVI, TV-Out, Retail €251.30

    or

    117449 Sapphire Radeon 9800 Atlantis PRO 128MB
    - AGP, ATI 9800PRO, DVI, TV-Out, Retail €452.66

I would have spent an extra 100 - 150 on a radeon 9700pro if it was there, but komplett don't have it listed :(

I think I will get cheaper ram though.

Only the 5800 had a problem with noise. The 5600 and 5900 have quite ordinary fans, quite similar to the Radeons.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that they are still nosier than the radeons. Can't remember where though.

Don't they still take up the first PCI slot aswell?

Ok i've changed it to same as above except:

    Saphire Radeon 9700pro from OC.co.uk €385

    2 sticks 512mb TwinMOS DDR 3200 CL2 from Komplett.

This brings the total to €1291

    Thanks for all the help.

From using the nForce2, it isnt really any faster with 2 sticks than 1 of DDR. If you can save money buying one big stick (prolly not..) then do that.

In regards to the GFX cards and the PCI slots, its a moot point as all modern cards produce so much heat (more than the CPU in some systems) that putting any PCI cards right next to the AGP slot would be lunacy.

Thats the All-In-Wonder, i don't feel like paying for features that I'm not going to use.

I sent a mail off to komplett about the 9700pro and they said they had discontinued providing them.

That's an All in Wonder (AIW) card, with a built in TV tuner and other goodies. Its a bit more expensive than a normal 9700 Pro :)

Komplett have DVD-R drive now for €200 now and I can personally say the hard disk is savage!

Sorry. I should really have checked the product details :)
Was wondering why it was so expensive
