    Story here.
    Dermot Ahern is considering a levy on telecoms companies to fund the provision of broadband connections to schools, libraries and community learning centres.
    Another story here.
    The Commission for Communications Regulation says it intends to re-designate Eircom as the universal service provider (USP) of telecommunications services in the State.

    Since they are charging well over the odds already there should not be a levy - BB to schools etc. should be at cost or the gov't should provide it.

    Hang on - that's indirect taxation - the Gov't will save money by not spending on the schools - but guess who's pocket it wll come out off. betcha business rates don't go up...

    Lets get this straight - the price goes up to subsidise an overprices school connection - the telco's profit twice ...

    =============================

    If they are going to do this then there should be a 1% levey on ALL telecoms to pay for primary school buildings - 'cos this is where it is most needed and where you get the best value for it - by comparison third level spending is a complete waste. (all spending comparisons based per student.)
