Sharp GX10 not recognising sim card

Hi a mate of mine bought a Sharp GX 10 off another mate it was a vodafone handset but when my mate inserts his vodafone sim card the following occurs: It asks him for his pin number then accepts it but then just says "insert sim". Any ideas guys I haven't come across this before. Could the handset have been to locked to a…

Two thoughts - 1) it has to be a 3v SIM. Any other will cause an error message. 2) All the GX10's shipped here are configured and locked to Vodafone Ireland, so a Vodafone UK SIM card will not work - or indeed, any other SIM! A 3v Vodafone Ireland SIM however will be interchangeable.
