Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

squat problem

    hi there,
i have been using dumbells for the last 3 months on a regular basis, i do all the regular exericises, and in the main am getting on grand, the exception is squat exericise, when i carry the dumbells on my shoulder and bend down all is fine but when i raise up i always get a cracking in my right knee, this is offputting for me, although i do not get any pain in my knee it still feels like i should not continue with this one, that it might cause damage.
my question is therefore do i continue to do the squats ingnoring the "cracking" so long as there is no pain.
    or
do i change the exericise to some other one which has the same effect and if so which one?
BTW im overweight at the moment around 95kg at 185cm does this make a significance, i have no other trouble in movement with other exercises with the dumbells (they are only 10kg each bye the way, going to increase soon)
    any suggestions welcome,

PS: just found this forum a few weeks ago, alot of experienced contributors, loads of honest info, looks great.

I used to have the same problem but I had the cracking in my shoulder when I did the shoulder press. I just lowered the weight and slowly every week I increased the weight and the cracking seemed to go. I also did more warming u on my shoulders before exercising. The cracking is gone completely now!

I dont think that the cracking will go if you change to a different exercise, you're still doing the same motion, but of course you could try, I think you just need to get used to the exercise, thats all. However I would like to know what causes the cracking in the first place.... anyone want to tell us??

Nothing to be too concerned about.

Actually the two posters there have it covered, between the link on fluid and dropping weight before progressing. Nice when that happens.

The only other thing is technique and form. Using dumbells for squatting is not ideal (assuming you are not actually referring to lunges) - perhaps the best site for info on proper squat technique is ... Dr Squat
