Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Duff at the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony

Don't know if its the right forum so move if neccessary please.

Did anyone see Damian Duff at the opening of the Special Olympics? I have to say I was disgusted with him.

We had Arnold SWaz.., Roy Keane, Heather Locklear, Jon Bon Jovi, Eddi Irvine, Colin Farrel etc etc... all hugely famous people, yet each one of these had no problems taking to the RTE presenter as they led their countries out into the main arena.... However, we then have an upcoming destined to be superstar, damian Duff whose BodyGuard man handles the TV presenter away from Duff as if he is a member of the elite and shouldn't be talked to by riff raff.

What was this all about - I am surprised at Duff to be honest, but maybe it wasn't duffs fault at all... But he did seem to be the only one that had a body guard with him.

Then again maybe it could have just been a misinformed guard for Duff who got it all wrong....

Anyone else have any thoughts? I'd like to think it had nothing to do with Duff.... I never imagined Duff being up his own arse

I don't know if that guy was Duff's bodyguard. He also interveened with some other stars as well - Arnold Swartz for one. Maybe they were asked if they wanted to talk to the press and if not, then this guy made sure.

At least he wasn't trying to plug anything or get credit for helping out.

I was very impressed by both Jon Bon Jovi & Roy Keane.

Jon Bon Jovi has been involved with Special Olymics for over 15 years.

It was on Radio One this morning - the security guy was not Duff's personal bodyguard, Damo had nothing to do with him. His agent was on the radio to make this clear. Damien had said yes to doing an interview in the tunnel minutes before, and had just done one for american tv when the RTE interviewer approached him. The security guy must be some over zealous soccer head who could probably get a job at Buckingham palace by now....
You should also know that Duffer has never had any personal security, that he spend time with the Irish special Olympians on Friday and that he cancelled other arrangments to be at the Opening Ceremony. The reason he hasn't been on air explaining the situation is because he's on holiday...so dont mis-understand it, he's still our ickle golden boy!!

Duff motioned as though he was going to have a few words but then the security guy muscled the presenter out of the way before he even got a chance, I think he got a bit carried away with the whole thing, I really think Duff was about to speak to the presenter

I thought it was pretty bad that only the celebs were being interviewed when it should have been about the Olympians.
The interviews were terrible too - "So do you think the Irish are doing a good job? Are we up to scratch? Yeah, we know how to throw a party!". Made us look like a country of amateurs trying to suck up to the big boys.
But back on topic, I thought it was hilarious, yer wan was a terrible interviewer and I thought it was great when she got pushed aside - pity it happened to the Duffer though, that didn't look good for him.

My older sister is quite involved with the Order of Malta who are doing first-aid duties throughout the competition.

What they were told was that if you see celebs throughout the games not to start approachign them looking for autographs etc since it will be detracting from what is important ... the athletes.

So I was, in actual fact, quite disgusted with the media asking the likes of Colin Farrell if he was going to be partying later, and not the security people.

i thought the ceremony as a whole was good
i mean it could've been Joe Duffy and the Chieftains on stage in phoneix park or summat
the music, paddy kielty mc-ing and the flags etc were all really good, i mean it measured up to an olympic opening ceremony imo

it was like an exagerated Paddy's day parade, absolut rubbish, ffs, when are they going to stop dragging out riverdance at every oppurtunity.

back on topic tho., i was happy to see that Roy Keanr received a good welcome, i was convinced he would get the typical welcome that every rangers player receives in Dublin and that we'd be the shown up for the small minded country we really are to the world. only guest that got booed was bertie ;)
