Signature Difficulty

Can anyone suggest why an [IMG][/IMG] tag would work perfectly in a normal post, but fail to show when I use it as a signature? It is a small GIF file. I have signatures enabled (i.e. I can see other people's). The boards in question allow IMG posting (not sure if this one's relevant). Any ideas?

well i can see an image with (C) 1982 Sinclair Research Ltd in your sig, that the one thats not working coz if so prob solved!
