sorry, not so short. But worth it!

KELLY JOE PHELPS IRISH TOUR 2003

Errigle Inn, Belfast - Tonight, Tuesday 24th June
Whelans, Dublin - Tomorrow, Wednesday, 25th June
Half Moon Theatre in Cork this Thursday 26th June.

For the first time outside the USA, Kelly Joe Phelps is touring with a band.

The Kelly Joe Phelps Trio adds Keith Lowe (bass) and Scott Amendola (drums) to the unmissable Kelly Joe live experience.

UNCUT: "The transformation of KJP from revitalist bluesman to contemporary singer-songwriter, which began on 1999's 'Shine Eyed Master Zen', continues apace on his fifth album.

His songs are now mini-stories, sans verse-chorus-bridge restraints, populated by seekers of truth and peddlers of dreams.

His lap-guitar style is exemplary, his voice has a heartfelt, rich patina and the backing musicians, including Bill Frisell on electric guitar, create a folk-jazz accompaniment of almost spiritual empathy. 'Knock Louder' revisits his blues roots, but only serves to remind us how far he has come since."

After cutting three ground-breaking records of guitar-and-voice blues that earned him a reputation as one of the best living slide guitarists (and won high praise from Steve Earle, Bill Frisell and U2's The Edge, among many others), KELLY JOE PHELPS put aside his slide in favor of straight finger-picking for 2001's
    'Sky Like A Broken Clock'.

This was also his first recording in a band setting, recorded with bassist Larry Taylor (Tom Waits), and drummer Billy Conway (Morphine).

And now, with his new album, 'Slingshot Professionals', he's produced his best longplayer yet...

"Empowering his characters with detail of Springsteen and Waits, Phelps' songwriting has leapt to a level inhabited by few (Dylan and Cohen spring to mind), while his voice sounds like Kentucky bourbon being poured over a waterfall."
