Lo There,

Well done ya made a great decision. I just got a new Pace Last Sat in Dublin and all i can say is 'ITS FORKING BRILL!!!!!' I had a USR 56k as well and I'll say no more. Anyway you can get a Pace 56k Internal from any GAME shop in Dublin. Cost £90 but really worth it.

Ditch that winmodem, Hec, those things are ****e. I paid 140 in beyond 2000 for a pace external and it is great. Sixty off pings straight away just for plugging it in You can download the v90 upgrade from their site as well

Yep, the internal one goes inside the pc, and the external one doesnt

External one is subject to the speed of your com port as well.

Castor with his rapier wit once again. Where will he strike next? Somewhere far away from people I hope.

Anyways, I have a Pace 56k under my Christmas tree. Okay, what I *HOPE* to be a Pace 56k. I left explicit instructions with my girlfreind, including a catalogue with the thing circled and detailed drawings of the box and the map to where it's cheapest.

Everyone says they're the dogs ******, haven't heard one bad thing about them other then some guy who doesn't know anything about PCs breaking several bits off the board while slotting it in.

UART 16550 compatible ports "and most motherboards have UART 16550 now days" have no problems with external modems cause they can run at speeds far higher than the maximum connection speed u'll ever achive on a modem. In other words as long as the port can run at a higher speed than the modems connection speed there is no difference between it and an internal modem.
Hope this helps U von.
