    On my new 124 FPS machine [<IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">] i have a Zoom 56k Flex PCI.

    Can get the silly thing to connect to Tinet at 38000 but pings are still utterly useless (800 or so).

    Any tips/tricks?

    Well its nice to know that u'r gettin 124 FPS but thats way too high for modem play so make sure u set "cl_maxfps 32" and that should reduce u'r ping by 100 - 150 I'd say. Also its worth remembering that the most reliable connections for playing quake are 33,6kbps as anything higher usually results in lost packets or unreadable packets "Hummm just wondering are these the same thing??" so try getting a initialization string to force the modem to only connect using v34 rather than k56flex, I use AT+MS=11,1 which works fine for me and my modem is also a k56flex. The init string goes in the advanced properties of the modem config, think its control pannel, modems, properties, connection, advanced, extra settings. Give it a try and let me know what happened.

    ahhhh SB, cmon, he may be from galway but the "cl_maxfps" comment was a bit uncalled for ;)
    what i wanna know is why im only gettin 70fps on a PII400 with 8meg i740 card :/
    and my modem is ****ered, had to get a spare 33 cos my 56 is bollixed!!
    the init string looks like it might be a bit useful! anyway, gman sb, least someone is paying attention :)

    The 8Meg I740 is no 16Meg TNT or 12Meg VooDoo II and there is nothing wrong with 70FPS BTW :)

    ya but im only getting ****in 42 in GL :/
    hes gettting almost 2 times that and the card aint _that_ bad!!!!! :)

    Sep thats cause that is a timerefresh , u have to have the fps there to give u the same fps as u get in show_fps 1

    timedemo demo2 on sadidas' machine gets him 125.4 fps in glquake !!!!!

    timedemo doesnt have an FPS limit..
    quakeworld has a limit of 72 fps max that you can get with it(theoretically)
    try "show_fps 1" when youre on a qw server, after typing "cl_maxfps 99999"
    (take it, modem.)

    the only time its more is when u alt tab and while screen adjust, it hits about 33522 :)
