    Bizmark, congratulations on getting connected!

It gives hope to us all. As I mentioned in another thread (in the IOFFL forum), they tell me that my line has been activated, too, and the modem is on its way. Looks like they might just be telling the truth this time, since yours actually arrived. :)

You're probably right to give them some time on the poor pings and transfer rates - their network is bound to have a few teething problems - hopefully, they'll sort it out soon. The next few days should be interesting...

One quick question: how long did it take your modem to arrive, from the time they said they dispatched it? And where do you live. roughly?
(Okay, that's two questions. And the reason for the "roughly" is in case you think I want your address, so that I can come around there tonight and nick your modem.... :)

hmmmm if it keeps getting better like this should be good by tomorrow :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

keeping you up todate (and because i have notting better to do)

the pings droped a lot (beween 53ms to 130 ms to most servers) but they jump to around 600-800 ms now and again
the modem has gotten up 2 98kbs up and 400kbs down

i hope this is a sign their working on the service

    Bizmark,

Thanks for keeping us updated - things seem to be improving already, which is good.

If you're *really* bored, you could try snooping around with "tracert", to see what's changing. If you're not familiar with it, tracert is a DOS app that ships with every version of Windows, I believe. (I don't use Windows much, having switched to Linux for everything except gaming some time ago, so I'm not sure.)

Typing "tracert www.redsquadrons.org" at a command prompt - when the connection is fast, and again when it's slow - might make for interesting reading. Like I said, that's if you're *really* bored. :)

biz, can you do the following:

ping -c 100 www.boards.ie and just paste the end bit where it gives the sumary. 4 pings isn't ideal to give a correct view of whats going on.

Also could you pm me your IP - I'd like to do some traces to you.

ipconfig /all in a command prompt will tell you your IP address. it'll prolly be 193.120.xxx.xxx or along those lines.

Can yis try tracert www.eircom.net - and paste the result here.

I think esat's INEX peering is fscked, and that may be causing some of the problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

i take it not anuff bandwith then

bah i though they got 48megs not 1meg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭Synkronite

Im confused.. What did EsatBT do wrong that Netsource did too?
My downloads are slow now .. 20kB/sec from ftp.heanet.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,862 ✭✭✭flamegrill

Biz as far as i know esat did get 45mbit for the service. It must be some sort of internal problem or a problem between eircom and them thats cauing the problem. As pings to just past the dsl gateway are tiny in or around the 2ms mark, so their is a small problem that they should sort out.

    Pau

i hope so flame if i wanted this kinda ping i would of went with netsources (when i ordered netsources where still ****) i want broadband for game,s mostly so d/l and ping are most important

btw flame what did you mean by "seems someone didnt learn from nersource mistake" ?

btw thanks for takeing the time to have a look at whats happening :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭Synkronite

Thought Id check my connection before work.. things seem to have stabalized.. Pings are < 30ms to boards.ie -- Downloads from ftp.esat.net are roughly 35kB/sec and from ftp.hea.ie around 40kB/sec.. Although, Im still waiting for 50kB/sec tbh..

One unrelated question.. I have a number of computers (imac, powerbook, pc running winXP) Atm I have my DSL modem hooked up to my WinXP box.. sharing, and everything works fine.. However, say if Im logged onto WinXP.. and my mother logs onto her account (using fast-switching) If she logs my account off [either directly or through the task manager box] It always disconnects the DSL connection also.. I remember when I had No Limits, I could connect it once, and then no matter who logged off, the connection would never be disconnected unless someone explicitly disconnected it.. Any idea why this happens, and how I can avoid it?

    Thanks

(PS - Hope the others get their modems today!)
