    Steve, irc.stratics.com #eve-online

a lot of immature people in there, but pm me(|AFDT|Kelly), i'll help you with basic info, some isk and tips.

I convinced a lot of irish people to join my corp(AFDT), so theres now 7 or 8 of us in it :)

If only regi and corinthian would start playing again.

I'm also Kelly O'Connor in game if you cant get on irc.

I dunno if this is frowned upon or not on this board. If it is, apologies adnans and feel free to edit it out.

I've just put my character up on ebay here for anyone that may be intrested in it. It's a gallente/intaki with a smidgen over 8 million exp and 4 million isk, suitable for mining/research/etc. No enemies and a fine security rating, I'm selling because I just don't have the time to play it any more.

You should have gotten at least a tier 1 BS and full set of implants first moriarty :/

Haven't actively played since ~feb.. wasn't arsed to go to all the extra hassle of bringing it up a bit... unless you have a set of implants and a bs going spare of course :) (buy ya a pint or two at a beers for 'em :))

So are many of you guys still playing, or like me taken a leave of absence yet again. ... plus if any of you need moderation on channel irish please let me know as I think I'm the only mod for that channel.

I've plenty of intention of getting back into it... just havent found the time.

Plus whats been happening in the world?? ie.. corp wars and so forth? :D

Another thing, I still have eve-ireland.com there which I had thought could have been a could community site for irish players but I again never had the time to do anything really with, if any of you believe they could put a site together for the irish community, please do let me know and I'll replace the corpse that is there now.

Currently just have an apoc + arma which my two chars are using, had two friends start even recently, so that was 9 implants for both of them.

    :(

Not playing, and won't be heading back soon. All the new stuff just wound up being the same ol' with different stats. Has Jove space been opened yet?

To be honest, it's not the games fault... I'm just burnt out. I tried returning earlier this year but that didn't last too long... memories. PvP was fun, as long as you were in the FOTM. There's too many Corps full of twats ingame (well 8 that I had the "pleasure" of anyway). You spank a "gloryhunter" and all you get is whinging!

this had to come up sometime, lets get it out of the way.

players that have invested numerous hours into their character's development only to leave them in a limbo on some database server after they get tired and sick of playing the game isnt cool. its natural to most mmorpg games these days that owners sell off their game accounts and get a 'return on their investment' sort to speak. if you feel that you dont want to play the game anymore and want to give/sell your game account off, you can do so on this board.

this selling of game accounts fits perfectly into the culture of a game such as Eve Online seeing as it has such a dynamic economy in-game. lets not get into the socio-economic disparity between the players who can afford and those who cant afford to bid for this account, making the game unequal to all. thats real life for you :)

what i frown upon is auctioning of characters which are going to be dissected for their parts and items that are only going to find their way on the auction sites again. :( that and using bots to advance your characters.

in-game whoring is acceptable too with 25% discount to mmorpg moderators :)

    adnans

(for the record, i left my EvE account to another boards user, but it was a very low char)

While I am aware it goes on on eBay etc. I don't believe the selling of any EvE items (including characters) should be openly promoted here - CCP may not like boards.ie because of it

    From the EULA:
The buying, selling or auctioning (or any attempt at doing so) of characters, character attributes, items, currency, or objects, whether through online auctions (such as ebay), newsgroups, postings on message boards or any other means is prohibited by the EULA and a violation of CCP's proprietary rights in the Game

That being said, I'm having a blast playing EvE at the moment. My corp is based in Fountain, and I'm in Empire right now on my 3rd Megathron :) - and I can't get back to those tasty BS spawns coz of the CA action in Fountain at the moment - oh well, time to see if that poxy lvl3 agent will give me an implant this time ;)

I just signed up to this over the weekend and started playing. I'm under the name "Patrick Aran" if anyone wants to look me up. I may also be noticed by my penchant for flying around in an unarmed Imicus (though I'm sticking to 1.0 and 0.9 sectors for now!). I think I'll prob make my money in mining..working towards ship upgrades and the like is fun.

    Really pretty game too..

LOL - trust me when I say you WILL be looking for a corp :)

That way you get the support of others, and also the chance to make serious money :)

Before I joined my current corp I was tiddling away at mission rats up to 110k bounty - now I happily hunt BS spawns worth 1 million upwards :)

Im looking forward to the Player complexes coming online - right now wars just drone on and on with no end in sight unless one side is obviously outclassed and should never have got in the war in the first place. PvPers will value them as bases and targets, and a stream of consumables required will mean that if one sides mining corps/operations come under threat theyll have to sue for peace to keep their bases online.

Ive only been playing a few months, and the major attraction is building towards the next ship or the next level 5 skill, but i can see how when youve done all that that it becomes stale - so its good to see them adding whole new content.

    any hints/tips for a n00b?

Go through the tutorial in game.. and then head over to the corporation channel and start chatting to guys looking for people to join there corp. The quickest way to learn is to join a corp and get mining/fighting with them and mainly just have fun!.

    A couple of helpful area's

In game - join channel [Irish] a lot of the lads from boards do idle in this channel and will be more than happy to give you some pointers.

and visit www.eve-i.com for more info on how to play and the best course to take depending on what you want to do in EvE.

Here is what will happen. Rather then sue'ing for peace, the traders will go onto the forums and whine and whine and whine, until they get their own way and can't be attacked unless they say so. It's almost a given in any MMORPG. Whoever whines the loudest wins.

I have been having a go at the free trial on this it looks good, how long do you reckon it will be around?

I say this cause Im pretty busy at the moment in college and had my internet connection removed to aid my success this year, but would like to come back to it in May next year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,020 ✭✭✭mang87

Ok, so im of to bad start. First thing I did was warp to this stargate, saw a billboard, attacked it, got my ass handed to me by it, and now im a floating egg. Lovely.

and what's this tutorial?? When the game started after I'd done my character, I was on my own. Didn't see any tutorial

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭BioHazRd

Now why would you attack a billboard  - those things pack a punch lol. Regarding the tutorial, I thought it popped up on the screen as your character was born. However, a valuable thing to do is dock in your original station and click on the agents tab on the right side of the screen. you will see that you have a lvl1 agent available to you. Right click him/her to talk to them and they will give you missions to do. This is the best way to learn how to play the game. Also, make sure you complete the training, as when you do, your standings with the faction will increase and you will have access to higher lvl agents which means more isk in your wallet.
Don't forget to join the channel "irish" ingame, we are a very noob friendly bunch in there, and you won't be led astray.

Hey Celt, which system are you in? I'm looking to join a corp but I couldn't find yours. All that came up was Atlantic Region Mining Associates. Game's quite cool, might consider buying it.

Maybe. Everyone whines - I see plenty of wannabe pirates on the eve forums whinging about this and that too. Plenty of them were upset with missles changes so that they couldnt bushwhack indies in Empire space with cruise missles in their kestrels, with a buddy ready to gather up the pieces after they got splatted. I think 0.0 will always be no-holds barred, whereas people who arent ready for 0.0 or dont want the risk will stay in Empire.

I reckon though that the usefulness of POS and their supposedly incessant mineral requirments will mean that miner corps will become more useful to their pvp colleagues - right now CA is taxing their miners 20% because they dont view miners as pulling their weight. So if an alliance wants to maintain control of a region, theyll be less able to waltz off halfway across the galaxy leaving their miners unprotected, because if they place any value on POS at all then theyll feel the loss when they come back and find all their POS ethier conquered or offline. That was my point about being forced to sue for peace.

Of course if an alliance doesnt place any value on POS they wont build them in the first place, and wont place any real value on miners anyway.
In the meantime, I came across this. That guy is a genius. Makes me want to do it!

He seems like a very good writer, and with a devious mind to boot. I dunno if Id admire him though, all the way through hes f0cking people for play-money...He even came close to f0cking his partner in crime over with only the fear of physical pain preventing him. Youve got to wonder about someone who places toy money over his friendships.

That said I did laugh and laugh with his description of Thoggins and how he screwed him over. Like I said, hes a good writer.
the irish channel seems a bit dead lately

Well, theres usually between 4-10 ppl in it but its always very quiet. Just because were all irish doesnt mean weve got anything to say to each other:)

Stangely enough so did I.. :D I didnt run into such troubles though as my previous corp had expelled my inactive ass long ago.

Its looking good though I like the new ships and features and I'm looking forward to trying them out.

For the first time ever I've started doing missions... lvl 2 ones are rediculously easy so I'm pushing fast for a lvl3 agent.

I must say I'm thinking about geting this game . But a few things worry me .

A ) Do u spend most of your game time watching your ship fly from A to B .

B ) If your a total newbie do u have to spend months , mining asteroids while everybody else seems to be doing interesting things .

I'm just wondering coz the whole thing seems like a really cool idea but i wonder will i be bored when i actually am in it .

ps. tried the 10-day trial a while back . result-played for a few hours doing training missions , got bored watching my ship fly from point a to b and also lost a piece of cargo i was supposed to transport ( click to move it to my cargo hold but never saw it again ) ,couldn't find it in the layers of menus, no-one could help so just got pissed off with the whole thing .

I started playing EVE about a year ago in an internet cafe with a few people i know. Within 24 hours (i trained hard) i had a Merlin, which is pretty good and was off killing NPC pirates. I eventually got podded by a rail gun from a billion kilometres away.

To be honest EVE is a brilliant game but you need a GOOD 56k line to actually use a 56k line for it. im d/l at about 2 kb/second and its a no go for EVE.

Its not a boring game in my opinion but if i were you i would be asking the 200 people who posted before you how to train yourself to fly a cruiser within a week. It can be done.

Whatever you do make sure you actually talk to other EVE people because its a load of crap without the integrated chatroom.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,161 ✭✭✭steve-hosting36

Eve is challenging and addictive, with the new features in shiva (next major patch) a whole new side of the game will open up, with player space stations and much more. Step 1 is get in with a friendly corp, once you do that you'll never look back :)

both tbh! we started off just hitting cruisers and indys.. got bored and started hitting evrey thing, we dont get the chance to argue if we should shot or not :p we hit a few newbs but felt sorry for em and refunded them there loss, also made a lot of profit from agent runners passing through and indys moving there stuff from agent locations. i think we managed to collect about 200 bps mixture of originals and copies out of doing this :D

today was a good day as ya can see here kills in last hour and here kills in last 24 hours think we had 54 kills in 24 hours with only 4 of us at it which i think isnt too bad seen as were only starting out :) The ammount of people that start complaning Whyd u blow my ship up?? is something to laught at :p Some of ya probably know the system and how easy it is to gank there.
