1. Why i bother

I am relatively new to the irish cyber scene.

I like quake (average player) as a game which i enjoy playing - i even in some sad way enjoy losing to koopa 60 to -7 (10 respawn kills in a row is soooo funny!).

But I like the cyber community in ireland and for me a lot of it revolves and resides in irc.iol.ie - the same way I like living in the liberties in Dublin.

Ppl moan about infightin and *****ing and quarreling among the community - whats new in any community - in any community cyber or not **** happens. cyber communities wont be any different.

I enjoy being part of the community on irc.iol.ie and i dont like to see cloud and the ign trying to mve it to another server (would be the same as me trying to get the ppl in the liberties to go to london or paris cos its got better transportation.)

Even an irish based irc linked to quakenet still moves the community.

I agree that the better players should play more foreign teams etc, but is it necessary to move a whole community for that to happen ?
I dont think so and I dont believe it will happen.


2. Quakezone
quakezone is a site which when completed (technically never) is being made by contributions of lots of people. It is not an iol site, it sits on my homepage space until Vexorg and I buy the domain (this week i hope) and eventually host it elsewhere.

More of the mini sites will be added to it as time goes on and people finish their pages which they are working on.

I , as i am sure the others who have worked on the site, would appreciate u correct your links above and only link to the mainpage.

3. IGN

I dont like the idea that this is a self propelling organistation.

Dont force people, ask them, listen and then if possible do what the people want - not just a clique, the whole gaming community.

Umm why does quake have to advance anyhows?
shure janey tis only a silly brownish looking game, is it worth all the time and money people like suds, cloud, vex,dev , mp etc put into it??
I know its good on yiz and all but were all ungratefull basts. we dont apreciate what the main ppl do for the quake scene in ireland at all.
Is this view wrong? what is the matter with just having a laff on irc and the servers as long as no-one gets slagged to hard.
shure we might as well all be back at school and just sit there brainwashed and just agree with whatever these ppl (look above) want us to do?

Its all well and good that u put ur time and money into it, but does that give you the right to put your rules on us?

And if this is the case why dont all the muppets just save up then maybe they can go on a powertrip too ordering around 15 year olds on how there to play and behave?

So what im saying is its only a game for gods sake dont get so worked up about it.And dont take this the wrong way but arent the main ppl all like over 25-30. Shouldnt you be concentrating on having kids of your own with out having to worry about someone elses??

Dev went ahead and organised QP

I wandered onto quake.fr and asked if they were interested in playing an Irish team sometime...
Dev is organising it and getting sponsorship (along with vex)

The same can be said for Cloud and MP

Nothing decent would happen without these lads...so just live with it.

Sorry Death but I have never heard such bullsh!t childish talk in my life.
The answer to your first question as to how these pple can make the rules is simple. Indigo, Tinet and IOL put up the servers you play Quake on, they own them, they make the rules, the same with IRC. If you don't like the rules don't use the resources these people provide.
They make the effort because to them Quake is a hobby rather than just some 'brownish game' that they play, and if it wasn't for them you'd all still be playing FFA on quake.iol.ie:26000 like muppets, the way it was when I first came on the net. Quake might be just a game, but as the bigggest game played on the net, there is a lot more involved now, and if you play it in ireland, you have to play by the rules, otherwise you can start clan muppet and go 'unf unf unf' in barryworlds where nobody will care.

The last couple of weeks of the Irish Quake Scene have degenerated into meaningless squabling *****ing and silly politics.

And this at a time when so many good things are happening.

Slosh has organised 4 new rocking quake servers at a time when quake players were getting desperate for servers.

Suds has arranged quake servers and put together a new large gaming site with help from a lot of people.

Devores latest contribution is getting an Irish quake team over to France to play an international game.

Cloud has given us a fantastic resource in the Web Boards.

Im am going to stop here for the moment, many others have put time and effort into doing things for the quake community Eddie Rocket, Kharn and MP being prime examples.

But just take a look at the top four, what makes them stand out amoung the resources available to us at the moment?

Simple, they took the time to get off their butts to do something about it and they did it by themselves, no committees to bog them down, and they just went and did it and asked ppl to assist them where necessary.

So lads if you are not happy with the current situtation, dont moan and ***** about it, for god sake do something and add to the resources we have.

And finally, all this crap i hear about ppl being told what to do, what not to do, how to behave, you wout let me have any fun is a complete load of steaming male cow droppings. There are so many instances of agressive shape throwing in both irc and on the servers that it simply spoils other peoples enjoyment. It has gotten to the stage where this type of behaviour will not be tolerated and this is sad situtation.

So when someone comes on the channel or server and trys to be funny, just remember that it might have been funny once but the chances are its going to annoy someone.

So lads lets be a bit more relaxed about things if your not happy about things do something constructive and lets get all this destructive crap behind us.

I'll be working part-time in Indigo some-time in the near future working on a secret project, which will have a good deal to do with Quake as well as other things....

Not going to say anymore though, since I don't even know exactly what I'll be doing.

Anyways, just to let youse know someone else is actually getting of their **** and doing something, albeit not set in stone yet.

I'm inclined to agree with Death a wee bit...it is only a game. It has escalated into something HUGE, but ultimately - a game.

This however is no reason not to take it seriously - as anyone might take soccer or GAA seriously like.

I think people have to remember - we're here to play Quake / Q2...not to argue about politics.

Right I may as well add my opinions for what its worth. Methinks theres a valid point to both arguments.

Suds reckons theres a nice community on irc.iol ie: most ppl inhabiting #quake also visit #morgue and some other chans too. Prolly more of a social scene ie: ppl finish a game pop into #quake to and blabber on about some games etc. And I'd prolly fall into that category. Cloud, being a long standing contributor to Irish quake, has a vision of us expanding into the european scene - damn right too.. I mean how many times are INC gonna play CW ?? There are plenty of other opportunities to organise clan wars while linked to a central irc channel. However the social scene will still be the same - we can still pop in - say lo and so on....

IMHO moving the quake community isnt a bad idea. Okay ppl are going to be upset, it'll be a slow move and it'd take most of the key ppl moving to quakenet exclusively. Whatever happens is it soo hard to have two copies of Mirc open???
