Heyas.

Basically, I'm trying to do a little survey to see if you Indigo users have been getting any problems lately.

Me and a few others I've talked to cannot connect to any UK Servers from about 5pm to 1am, peak Internet gaming times, without massive lag and packet-loss.

Basically this is annoying as hell, as I can't even connect to WWW Sites.

So reply if you have a positive or negative remark...

BTW, This is taken from the Indigo Site.
"Many of you have asked about our upgrade to the 56k modems, the rollout of the 56K V90 modems will commence on Tuesday 12th January."

I don't know what the hell this means, but I should know soon. Maybe it means they'll give a free 56k modem to the best dressed employee.

Kegs.

Funnily enough, well its not really that funny, except maybe if your a geek it might just be funny, I'll let you decide, so.
Possibly funny enough, I have the exact opposite problem connecting to the UK servers, my tinet connections are just rotten, a load of packet loss and jump's in my ping, while my indigo connections are while a bit on the high side, are pretty steady.
The only thing maybe different is that I didnt bother upgrading to v90 and I'm still using Flex, so maybe its just v90 that sucks?

HIV indigo players had pings of 1000ms plus on monday nite, thank god for subs. can someone techie do a traceroute on barrysworld when
1. the conns are good
2. the conns are bad
i think the uk-ire link is up & down myself so suddenly u get routed thru the states or something. i was playing around newyears on barrysworld on indigo 33.6, with a wonderfull ping of 180ms when suddenly it rocketed to 1400ms. i reconnected and still sky high pings. it just seemed as if someone somewhere threw a switch

btw. indigo lads, pick up the phone and ring them and complain.

Hmmmmmmm,

I don't have those problems because I'm connecting on a different number than the 1891 one. I was one of the few Indigo Subscribers who had serious probs connecting to the system after they upgraded their modembanks or routers (can't remember which)so eventually they set me up so I could connect to this "other" number. I only connect at 33.6 but compaired to connecting through the 1891 number the connection at 33.6 is far better.

My only real problem is the piece of crap USR Modem that I have in my system. I was going to upgrade to a pace but I'm now going to wait for ISDN to come down (Cable looks like its dead as an option for me for a while).

Gandalf.

It seems to me that the old 56k maybe the problem, I'm in the samed boat as Gandalf, as I'm using the 33.6 modem to connect to indigo. I'm also using the dublin pop number not the 1891 one. I'd have it here, but I'm sure someone can post it, otherwise I'll mail it you. The night of the DS match I was getting pings of around 350 or so, most of the time get connections of 250 or so on the lmctf server.

btw. cave & shank put up a LMCTF server will yeas.

Well, first of all... my connection to Irish servers are fine. The only problems are with the UK and some European sites. Indigo maintains there are no problems, but an inside source confirmed they have been getting a high number of complaints Re: bad connections outside ireland recently, esepcially at peak times. This points to a faulty router,fible-optic link or some such leading out of the country, so at peak times, as Nog says, we must be routed through the US or a totally different Continent all together, ending up in the UK after 500+ MS with a high rate of packetloss.

Basically, if that is the problem, and noone in support will admit it, it will take weeks to fix. But, if it is, TINet SHOULD be affected too, which it doesn't seem to be. So, this points to Indigo's actualy Modems connected to the main UK/European Backbone. While the modems to to Irish Backbone(A Seperate one for faster access in Ireland) seem to be fine, or not in use as much.

That's all i've gotten so far, more on this as I get it... if youse want =)

Right lads,

Everyone post here if they've been having problems and I'll mail it to Indigo Support a couple of times, see if it gets their attention.

Yeah agreed, Indigo before Christmas to BW was good, 170ish. But now after 5 it gets unplayable and I can't connect websites or b0rk FM which is not nice. Connecting at 33.6, no probs with any Irish servers, just international ones.

Don't know if this is related. Tried sending emails the other day to various people on indigo and I kept getting the mails bounced back saying something Cache mail server full or something.

Now Alan,
You do realise that you cant actually connect to b0rk FM when no-ones broadcasting?

Regards,

Yep, oh yeah, my connection last night on the ukccl server or whatever server was laughably worse(r) than usual. was pinging constantly over 800+, still managed to get a good amount of frags but when it takes u an entire quad damage and a super shotgun to kill one person you start to question if your lagged just that bit more than usual.

Indigo connections to BW used to be great but now, forget it.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 793 ✭✭✭Kegser

Yup, something is definatley wrong although Indigo wont admit it. My contact says it may be because of all the extra people who joined just before and after Christmas, added to the slow buildup before that of extra connections. Basically, it may be that Indigo just don't have the equipment to deal with the amount of traffic they get outside Ireland, and when that gets full(Used up by high priority business ISDNs and high-bandwith lines) they get routed all over the gaff.

So, whenever Indigo get their act together and upgrade we should see a definate improvement. Or maybe I should say "if" they upgrade. They may just let unhappy people quit until they have a nice userbase that doesn't congest the place, instead of opting to spend more money.

Remember of course Indigo is owned by Telecom, who also own TINet. TE may not want to mess around with Indigo too much, preferring to work with TINet. Just a thought.

Yep stick me down as a disgruntled Indigo user. IRC to the French (on a uk server) has been woeful. Constant disconnections and massive lag on the line.

BW used to be 70ms for me but its been bad since the move and I've given up playing abroad for now.

I'll do a tracert tonight if I think of it.

DeV.

Yup - put me down as another disgruntled Indigo subscriber. Every second pixel on my netgraph has been a big red line ... to servers that I previously got good pings to. Bah. Only started a couple o' weeks ago.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 793 ✭✭✭Kegser

At the rate of complaints they are receiving they are officially looking into the problem, but 'officially' there is no known problem.

If there is a problem, like I said before, it will most likely be a matter of weeks rather then days.

Yeps, an another unhappy Indigo user.
I have 56k V90 modem and I have the same problems:
Ping was exelent just b4 X-mass
now... nightmare.
I'm in Dutch Quake clan and
I used to play on Dutch servers and sometimes
my ping was better then Dutch people had.
At the present it's just unplayeble anymore
ping is jumping like hell.
Could anyone give me some addresses of Irish QW servers please?

Yeah it looks like Indigo's connection to the outside world leaves a lot to be desired recently. I still get a respectable 160-200 ping on IOL's servers but any time before 2am Irish time my ping to Indigo is between 800-1000+. Looks like the holdup is occurring at
teleeireann-gw.customer.alter.net 146.188.32.18
(btw I'm connecting with multiple T-3's from Cupertino CA).

Seems to be plenty of unhappy customers.

I'll have to check that gateway, Goatboy, haven't tried yet.

We really need to take this discussion over to the indigo support boards, and give 'em a fix it or we'll walk ultimatium. Otherwise, they'll just ignore it. Many of us moved to tinet and indigo for no other reason other than they offered a better connection than the competition availble.
Does anyone know what the connections to barrysworld are like on a Iol account at the moment ?

• Closed Accounts Posts: 793 ✭✭✭Kegser

IOL seems relatively stable, with fairly high pings but a low amount of packetloss. I haven't tried it extensively though, so if anyone out there uses IOL a lot please don't hesitate to reply <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

By the way, if you can find the Support Boards you're welcome to complain, also mail support@indigo.ie with your complaints.

When we have enough people complaining about it here, I'll mail the page to them and see what they say.
