Optimise 56k connection...

I am vaguely aware that there is software out there which has the purpose of optimising a 56k connection. Just wondered if anyone had used anything like this and what the result was.

giving your system a good clean with adaware & spybot can reclaim a bit of bandwidth...
i haven't checked out any optimisation apps tho...
(unless you consider download managers...)

One I heard of - unsure if makes much of a difference;
In Modem extra init Strings [under windows] put in
S11=50

Apprently this tells modem to use higher frequency when connecting - where this is less traffic/line noise, improving connection - esp. on lines where there is a lot of noise.
