HELP Quake 2.....HOW ??

    Right I have Q2, now what patches, maps, mods, skins ??! etc do I need to play on the net.

    & where can I download them...

    Go to http://files.quake.ie/qfiles.bhtml?page=q2patches and there you'll get a lot of what you need. It's 16Mb d/l for the latest q2 with the Capture the Flag mod as well, or 10 Mb if you dont want CTF.

    Or, if you have version 3.17 from a magazine cover disc or elsewhere, you can d/l a 2.5 Mb patch instead, to save you some time and money <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

    Also go to www.gamespy.com and get the latest shareware version of that, for finding servers with a decent ping.

    Hi there, you'll need the following (assuming you've just installed Q2 off the CD, and haven't changed anything else)

    Quake2 v 3.20 Full Upgrade *required*
    This includes DM maps, models, vastly improved code, the ever-popular CTF mod and lots of other stuff.

    Full Rocket Arena 2
    This is a very popular mod that's run on quake.ie, you'll need it if you want to play on the RA2 server.

    GameSpy 2.06
    This is an excellent utility for picking servers. It allows you to add servers to a list, check their connections, see who's online, what map/mod is being played etc, all before you start Quake2 - VERY handy.

    Those are just the bare essentials. After that, you can start downloading new maps (required to play on the quake.ie Free For All server), new skins, new models, more mods, movies, script/config utilities etc etc.

    Check out the quake.ie files section, or go to one of the main quake sites on the 'net, like planetquake.com
