Only Eoin Leens 17.33 CBP betters the UK meet performance and CBP of 16.93, and in the U 23s only Aidrian O'Dwyer's 2.22 is a superior performance, cobnsidering the europa team manager saying we fall behind in the field events, and all we have to look forward to is the track events.

(NB I havn't checked the ladies events yet)

In fairness, there are factors here. Eoin & Adrian dominate their events. As such having won their respective titles they can go on to throw and jump higher without the pressure of specific competition. Now dont get me wrong, i have huge respect for both these guys, and im speaking here with admiration, but not all events require you to run your fastest times to win. In particular distance events, where winning might mean taken it handy for a lap or two and then taking off.

It seems a bit unfair to be comparing times from the Natioanls to the AAA. It is a championships that is drawing from a much smaller population. The top few do not have to run as hard to win as there is a bigger gap to the next best. Hence they may go out and run 3.50 something when if they were in the AAA they may have been pushed to faster times. Many athletes didn't compete in thier main events but ran a shorter event to prepare themselves for the Europeans. The two examples that were given above were athletes competing in thier main events. It was a national championships were the aim was to win, times don't matter. The question that should be asked is how many Irish athletes could have won the AAA?
