Being completely fusked up was one of the joys of being in CTYI. not drugs mind just being complete weirdos. I mean there was the spoon cult, the Sveedish army (no bias in inclusion btw :D), and things like the Porn Party (VOTE PORN!) and other such things. Hell the Prostitute debates, and Thom gaining almost universal support that animal sex should be legal if it harms neither the person or the animal.

Where else did this shít happen? Where else can 12 -> 16 year olds express such views without getting a good kick up the arse. Well it sadly seems debate wise that that's out the window, but COME ON KIDS! MAKE SOME DAMNED NEW CRAZE OR CRAZY THING! I mean even Stanley was SOMETHING. <sigh>

I'm calling especially upon MCD, Hugh, and a couple of other crazy bastards one or two of whom I met today. Be nuts. Distill coffee till it's thick as honey! Run wild in capes or flags (Captain Albania springs to mind)!

Hmm... I'm gonna see if I can stick up all the photos I can find of odd CTYI things and link to them here.

Oh and oldies, add to the collection of classic moments if you can remember any. :)

[edit] almost forgot. This thread was the brainchild of Neil. I just beat him to it. (I'm bored and thought I'd put it up before we both forgot. No offence meant oh mod of living down the road vunerability ;))[/edit]

Lets not forget the time you tried on my bra, but that was only a minor encounter. Even the ubiquitous guys in drag thing seems to be gone. One of the first things that was ever said to me at ctyi was by my teacher on the 1st day, back when i thought ctyi would be an education "this course will be a hands on learning experience, and in case any of you don't know what that means, i want hands above the desks at all times children". He spent large amounts of time in class fantasising about sheep out loud and teaching us pick-up lines (tell me darling, what do you think of game theory). If the teachers aren't crazy it all goes to hell. And if they don't mention sodomy on a regular basis, then somethings wrong ("how much anal gratification can you get? young children can be very creative").

Oh and for all you CTYI going kids... Sean the RA was as far as I remember one of the founders of the Porn Political Party and of the DPA (Dirty Perverts Associations). He also shaved CTYI on his head for his last session. :D

Hehehe... The dangers of RAing. :ninja:

I agree, none of the young kids do anythig interesting anymore, last year, the most interesting thing I remember was me and Hugh and Cathal running around the res with our little ARSEnal of guns and hooting each other, that was tame by CTYI standards.

And they actually made me take my dressing gown off on Thursday, ON THURSDAY!

I have fond memories of Game theory and the sheep loving instructor, shane was his name wasn't it? I used to hide under chairs while people sat on them, completely oblivious to my presence.

What we should do, is get a group of the veterans to infiltrate the res and do something zany, that would be cool, although we'd get arrested.

At this time, I'd like to raise the point again that a permenant CTYI would be the happiest place on Earth, and it's not entirely implausible (I won't bore you with figures)

I'm aware that I'm replying to everything but it's late, I'm full of Ice-cream and this is the best way I can think of putting off starting my part in a group essay which is due in several hours.
Alas, I am a newbie this year, so I've only heard the wonderful tales of what once went on at CTYI, never experienced them first-hand.
I had definetly expected to see more people wearing dressing gowns on Thursday and I saw about 3 people wearing them (that's not to say that's all there were, that's just all I saw) Also, there's no cloud watching anymore.
On the plus side I had been informed that the music at the discos was so bad it would make your head bleed, and while most of the music was pop, they did play "Gay Bar", QUEEN!!!, Chilli Peppers, White Stripes, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (gotta admit, everyone's got memories to that one) and other stuff.

Heh... all those crap songs carry so much meaning... well ok. SOME of them do. :p

Oh and since I'm probably catching the attention of the younger audience... remember kids: DRINK BLEACH!

I also enjoy drinking poisonous substances. On the topic of blackmailing people in a position of power, I just found this picture of my TA asleep. The embarassment value.

Yeah, a new tradition may have been started with Bohemian Rhapsody, a couple of people lurking outside requested the song, it was played, and about four of us linked arms, our R.A made us add others to the circle and so it began, until the Wanye's World headbanging bit, then a few of us broke away, and then they all did.

    Aye.
    We're so original.

it blows big time! there's no liberal views on exual orientation, there's no stupid shouting (and us shouting "S00K MEH WILLEH!" get's old pretty fast, outside of class) and what's more, the only people hugging are people who've been here once or twice before!

I ask you this: What teh fook, like?

The RA's are all these generic people with only a few sticking out, and once more: what teh fook? where be the stupid fun people, it's picked up a little into the second week, but still :(

I'm having a good time, I kinda wish I came here earlier though. I'm told earlier years were like the wonder years. Was that show any good? I've seen more pistakes of it than actual footage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭Mystic Fibrosis

Bland RAs? SOOK MEH WILLEH!!! We have teh brilliant Rory who, through SOME form of magic is back from last year. which means I have him twice. Yay.

I can't really speak about "teh good aul' days" because I was only told about them (albeit as they were happening) but I can say last year was teh better.:(

    last year sucked.

but yiz can't really just show up here and bitch about it all being so crappy, you have to do something about it!
you, my pretties, are the new generation of nutters (god help us all :p ), YOU and YOU alone are the people who have to dress up and make it fun for yourselves and all around you. then maybe people will take it as an example and it'll all be so much the better for your outbursts of insanity.
you can make it better than the old days if you really want to, it was always the people that made it what it was.

good luck to you in your attempt. :)

Good work Chloe! You hit the point of the thread on the head. Like a nail. That you hit on the head.

    With a hammer most likely.

Hehehe... The Hail Satan Song (also known as The CTYI Song). Someone google it and put up a link.

    :ninja:

    LAZY :ninja:

Chloes right (though I don't know her!). Ye can't just sit around complaining about how it's not crazy anymore, not as good as it used to be. The crazines sdoesn't just appear magically, you have to make it happen. I'm here now, and I'm having a mad time. It p*sses me off to hear people complaining really loudly about how sh*t it is and how they want to go home and they're not having a good time. I mean, come on! Do something about it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 451 ✭✭Zukustious

I'm finding the crazy people a hell of a lot more fun than the... norms. There should be many more of the lesser, and many less of the majority. Crazy people are becoming somewhat of a dying breed. I'd say you could predict total extinction unless they start reproducing fast.

So my message to super-mega-crazy-fun people: GO NOW! And do whatever it is you need to do to make more of yourselves.

<edit> I apologise for completely restating shep's point. Sorry shep</edit>

yeah, i know. but it's hard, and I have hormones, <whine whine bitch bitch> no one loves me! :(

And under sven's instructions i have printed out The Song...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭nosmo

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭Barry Aldwell

Teh sendage of teh song shall happen now. To teh engineering class. Now!!!1!one

  • Registered Users Posts: 87 ✭✭ceewa

every single year people complain that its not as much fun, its not as good as last year, its boring blah blah blah

ye probably have this perfect picture of what it was like before and have completely forgotten everything ye complained then

the whole point of life is that things change, enjoy whats happening now and keep all the happy memories you have too

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,196 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Tbh, i remember both my years there, and there were immense differences between the years. its more the outside mentality affecting CTYI and also the people you get to know, but meh.

MacD: do you mean THE song??
    heheeheheheheh....

actually, one of the changes i can pin down that does somewhat change the CTYI'edness is the change of the trip from town to Blanch. it allows fewer of the nevermores access and thus fewer traditions get caught on. albeit there will be at least 5 or 6 of us going out to the wild crazy halls of blanchardstown shopping centre this year, so maybe we can rekindle yez all :D

If any of you plan on being RA's or going back to ctyi,i wouldn't put the hail satan song on a website, or in view of staff members, i'm sure someone remembers the nastiness the first time around...

Lol, what are you on about Jess? there is no hail satan song!!

    Thats just a blatant lie!!

Heh, but yeah seriously, bad idea, don't put it anywhere. and don't link from here. Please.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'm here now and it's pretty good. It's not as good as last year though, at least not as lively anyway. I'm leaving in two days though and I might not see anyone again til next year, unless I bother to go to some of the reunions this time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 444 ✭✭s0l

heh, after printing it out I put it in my back pocket and forgot about it.
Didn't remember it till now :)
    but on a side note:

    Conan the barbarian.
    Conan,
    warrior without fear.
May his magic sword protect him
the mightiest of warriors is he.
    Feel the power!
    Conan....

I LOVED THAT THEME SONG! sorry but it's one of the few i sometimes (albeit rarely) hum to myself and don't need to think to remember the lyrics. Pity the show itself was substandard. BRILLIANT theme though. :D

Jess?!?! That's who ya are. Kewl.

Anyhow Captain Albania is still around... Though he's actually a DCU student now and a member of my Archery Club. And that leads to some crazy crazy stuff.

Anyhow the RAs... Hmmm... Ronan's there. I knew him from my time at CTYI. [edit: podge please do not insult people straight out on this forum, it's against everything this is for, especially if they are not here to defend themselves. << Fio >>]

Anyway the rest of them look about 16 themselves! Didn't recognise any of them from CTYI and they just look terribly normal-like 90% of the students. :( Tis awful lookin really.

[edit: ditto the above editting << Fio >>]

Such easy targets they make themselves though. All gathered in the halls below as I load my bow up on the Viewing Gallery!!

Oh go on! Shoot them! Or at least one of them! Or an RA... or SHEILA!

And hugh! If what you texted me this morning is true... FOR SHAME! BOO! HISS! You should've thought of a new cult. Something like the cult of the cl1t... or some such (I'm thinking of Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back here btw)... But yeah... I suppose it's better than nothing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Sorry, but the spoon cult was alive and blooming when I left. Though that is a good idea. So you're one of the people with the big bows I desperately wanted to get my hands on.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭halenger

That's me... Armed and dangerous. Just the way I like it. Hehehe... :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 408 ✭✭purplepolkadot

i don't like all this hairy poo about ctyi not being as good as it was last year. it's far far far far superior, and the RA's are a lot more relaxed (even rory, the poor little balding diaphragmed hamster) and friendly and **** like that. and a fancy dress disco is way better than a shaggin romeo+juliet ball; they're ****e.
it's only as good as you make it. and stuff. someone else can say this better than me. someone try.

You're just saying that because everyone knows your name this session :P

And Rory is damn cool this session, but it's annoying, it picked up for me right near the end :(
