any of you lads get this to work yet?
We sorted it out today, its fookin class. Of course modem muppets can't use it coz of connection, but with the qizmo voice server type thing here its class, on indigo in a team game you can talk away perfectly, forget all ure cfgs and team binds, this is mental. Next best thing to sittin beside each other on a LAN.

    Zero.

Well it may not work for modemers but is there anywhere I can get the program to set it up on a LAN. It would make my life a lot easier cus team mates always end up being in differnet rooms.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Jaden

    Zero,
Sorry to waz all over your parade, but in a post from over six weeks ago, I explained that Myself and Slosh (although mainly Slosh, doer of many cool things ) Had a voice proxy up and running. It adds nothing onto your ping, as it merely interpruts information already being sent to your modem. It is, as you pointed out, very cool, but a word of warning....

If only a few ppl have it up and running, and only on one team on a server, then they can report nme locations and status to team-mates when they're dead. No-one would know, which is a right pain. Most of DD have it up and running, so no funny stuff people....

    Hail To The King, Baby.

Nope Jadey boy - it uses teamtalk - so ppl who are dead cannot speak to teammates!!

    Slosh.

    Two entirely different things.

Slosh and jaden have created voice comms by using sound trigger (which means that I can trigger a sound on all team mates machines) This is very easy on connection and can be used by modemers. ( I hope I havent misunderstood what slosh told me)

Zero and the boys are playing with REALTIME voice comms which means that I can sit at my machine and talk in real time to my teammates.

You are both wrong to claim that this is the first time in Ireland that this has been done

CW had soundtriggers ages ago as did the original hibs team (courtesy of Von),

Myself and Bunny set up two hands free phones over my isdn and vex isdn for the CT ABAT game. We played on one channel each and then phoned each other on the other channel, set both phones for hands free and hey presto, instant real time comms (old tech, you just cant beat it)

    DeVore.

Ya CW have used the soundtrigger since the very first time proxies were heard of here, I think Ser introduced it, anyway the soundtriggers got to be a pain in the **** after a while because like on IRC sounds they tend to get a bit f*cked up if theres a few sounds all going at the same time, the one cool thing tho was that you could actually tell what direction the sound was actually coming from.

On the subject of normal voice comms, the UK team used this a long time ago but we didn't bother because we reckoned we were lagged enough as it was without allocating 8k of our lousey 33k connections to voice. As regards the first time it was tested here I can say I tested it as far back as duke3d on modem to modem DM using a mic but it was crap, maybe it's gotten better since.
