Nokia 6610 - Connect to ISP?

I've setup the nokia 6610 modem driver on my laptop (running XP home) and when i try to connect it will dial but i get that tone on my phone that sounds like (number not recognised or in use).

I can dial the eircom 1892 from my mobile and it will give the normal handshaking fax noises, however dialling from the network connection in xp gives that unknown number tone. Looking at the display on the phone it seems to be dialling the correct number. It's definitely working as a modem but the number is not responding. I heard somewhere that alternate numbers need to be used.

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a different number to use or should i be using some other settings?

I had some issues with this in the past with my Nokia 6310i and Windows XP. Back then the Nokia Data Suite was not compatible with Windowss XP when using the handset as a traditional modem. I downloaded IrComm2K from:

    http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/~kiszka/IrCOMM2k/English/

This solved the problem when dialling up using HSCSD, however Windows always displayed a connection speed of 28,800 bps no matter what speed I connected at.

I was able to configure the handset to connect through GPRS without any problems. Call Vodafone's data support team and they will be able to guide you through the whole process. Maybe try here first:
