    A huge issue of debate on the Q3 messageboard is id Software's choice to go with a 600ms switch time between weapons. tiGGr went through the trouble of making this nifty little page which will show you first hand just how fast that is with a great interactive "demo".

    How come the more I hear about this game, the more I dislike it. It definately seems to be more geared towards the q2 players. The slow weapon switchin is one of the main reasonms why I don't play q2 very much:/

    I would prefare the wep changing to be a bit faster in Q2, but not much. I don't no why its a main reason for you not playin Q2, as it just means you have to think about yr game a little bit more. IMO it's another aspect that makes Q2 more of an interesting/strategic/satisfying game then Q1.

    i have given Q2 a fair go, and that is one of my main problems with it, its like "dum di dum, hang on there a second in mid-battle til i take out my musket and oil it up and then i'll be with ye", I mean theres nothin like bouncing some kunt up in he air against the wall with a rocket and pinning the bastid there with the shaft til he keels over dead.......Jah!!

    slow weapon-switch is a biitch.

    What is the difference? prob not more than a few frames or few hundred milliseconds, so its hardly too tough to get used too. Now I never played q1 online and i'd be all for faster weapon switching in q2 or q3, but i cant see as it'll make much diff, as people will just get used to whatever it is in q3.

    I think I'm more and more in agreement with someone who, over the weekend, said that ID software rushed and fluked Quake 1. It seems that they're determined to extract all that was good about Q1, and turn Q3 into a sickly Q2-like snorefest with better graphics.

    Fiver sez we'll still play Q1 when Q3 is done.

    q2 weapons switching is too slow for my liking. thats the one thing about q1 that is better than q2. and anyways, why worry about q3? a tenner says i'll be playing tribes while you guys rabbit on about 60ms. jeeze <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">. its way more playable on a local pop than quake.

    15 quid says you wont be able to organise the 8 people you need for a decent game without muppets and spas ruining it for you.

    its 600ms btw, which is a lot when you consider that teh difference between lpb and hpb is about 50-100 ms now...

    Its one of the reasons I dont play more Q2 too. I just prefer playing a faster nastier game (like zero explained above, I taught him that trick the hard way <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/tongue.gif&quot; WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":P">)

    I'm the one who said that ID fluked Q1 and I'm beginning to become more and more certain of it. I loved Doom and hated doom2, and it seems that ID can innovate and program but cant design nor recognise when they have a good thing going...
