Koopa,

Open the System Case and disconnect the CMOS battery on the Motherboard. But remember that will erase all the details held in the CMOS <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/wink.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=";)">

Have fun,

Gandalf.

ROFL gand, opening the case is NOT an option <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
i suppose i could pretend to be a maintenance worker..mm

If opening the case isn't an option, try putting it in a freezer for a day, that should clear any unwanted info.

Its simple really, what your CMOS needs is
Electric Shock therapy. Luckily most PC's
these days have a built in facility to
perform this operation. First of all put on
a white lab coat, this is needed to give an
air of professionalism, failure to do this
can have disastrous results.
Now on the back of the PC there's a switch
on the power unit, turn it to 110v, this is
a medical term, don't worry about it, now
plug the PC back in, and turn it on.

Your password should now be gone. maybe.

As far as I know, switching the power supply to 110 will do some horrible things to the machine, some dumb b!tch in my class did it before. Dunno if it's true or not, have fiddled with most parts of the machine but not that. Ask OL how to bust the Bios, i'd say he'd know.

P.S. you're an arab

Dont mean to be snotty but how can someone on an advanced board like this answer rev's post seriously - d'ja recon turning the voltage to 110 will do damage, let alone start it with "as far as I know..."

Not meaning to be snotty but being so nonetheless

Hellfire, ride me.
I'm only outta the sack and my brain wasn't working. Thought you were trying to do the voltage across the CMOS jobbie to wipe it.
I have heard stupider suggestions, I thought you were serious, being a Q2 muppet and all.

As pleasurable an experience as you believe riding you would be, I'll have to decline this time. Is this offer still open when I get back ?
Now get back to drinking my good man.

At the risk of been of been helpful you could try this link http://inline.softseek.com/Utilities/System/Review_20753_index.html

Failing this, you can also reset most passwords though the use of a jumper switch (which saves your CMOS settings getting wiped).

DCU machines, eh? Hehe...

Okay, this is how I did it. Be warned, I wasn't a student at the time and therefore couldn't give a shag about being chucked out. You're in a different position <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

Grab a BIOS nuker program. Not difficult to find, and all it does is reset your entire CMOS memory to blank. The machine rebuilds the CMOS at next boot, without any security settings enabled.

From there, booting from a floopy is easy if that's all you want to do... I went on to reformat and repartition the hard drive and install Windows on 7 of them and a Linux server on an eighth, but that's another story... ^_^

shinji, thats the whole problem.. busting the bios..
these award bioses need award nukers...
theyre fairly ****ed up.. weird bioses (heh)

thanks for the url Rev, hope this one works on this particular bios.. cos i have had plenty of experience with this sorta thing, but these award bioses are positively weird ...

btw the safest method of getting around the bios isnt to clear it totally, cos on most new machines it wont reset upon next bootup... the safest thing is to backup the ram contents of the bios (so you can restore it when youre finished, and noone can detect that youve messed with the bios), then copy over the ram with the ram from an unpassworded bios of the same type.. do your stuff, then restore the original ram..
normal bioses respond to ports from 70(hex) to 73(hex), but these award bioses are weird as i said before..
hope that nuker works on these ones <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

Don't worry overmuch about the BIOS restoring itself, Koopa... I know that the ones on the DCU machines do (the PPro180s anyway)

these are different machines shinji <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
the ppro 180's are guarded by a fearsome looking 4 foot tall musclebound ANIMAL of a man..
we cant use those..
these machines are AMD-K6 200's running WinNT
and basically they give lower fps than hamlab.
