Suggestion: Change backup time

    Just a wee suggestion. Perhaps the time of the backup should be changed from 3.00AM to another time (4.30? 5.00AM?) when less people are online.

    There seems to be plenty of night-owls about these days, myself included.

    Ah, but this way we get to see drunken people post at 5am :D

    Is 5am the absolute quietest? I did a graph of it last year sometime.

    I concur! 5am is a lot quieter.

    Most active times in #boards.ie
    2am- 4.9%
    3am- 3.0%
    4am- 1.8%
    5am- 1.0%

    Still fairly active around 3am by all accounts, most of us wasters will have fecked off to bed by 5.

    why not do a server free backup ? It woudl only cost a few thousand to get the snapshpt software !

    Actually 7am seems to be the quietest, going by IRC Stats.

    Night Staff/gamers must head off about 6.30am and normal people don't start work till 7.30/8am

    How about moving the backup to 7am?

    I think I remeber ecksor saying that he had checked the site-use stats and found 3am to be the least active. Anywhos ts only for like 10 minutes :rolleyes:

    I think it should be mover to later in the night/earlier in the morning. I'm often browsing at 3 am.

    Very generous of you to offer that amount of cash Alany.

    I vote no to this proposal. The 3am backup like having someone poke me and say "go to bed amp, for god sake, sleep isn't actually optional".

    It's actually possible to do both on 56k sceptre. Boards doesn't really take that much bandwidth especially if I'm dling a goat pr0n movie while reading a thread.
