It's not worth the money. There's nothing in Win 95 that you can't add for free off the net.

Doesn't make your machine any faster if your machine is fast to begin with. It's not Y2K so you will have to update it.

Also Win2000 should be out, anyone confirm or deny the rumours they are going to make Windows so you have to rent it instead of buy it?

Yep, I heard about the 'rent' idea. Its not the offical line, but microsoft were toying with the idea of providing yearly licences for Windows 2000.

Hmmmmm thats nice of Microsoft to help Linux become a mainstream OS.

Bloody cheek of them to get people to pay yearly for shoddy work. I thought Win95 was a heap of cow manure but then I saw Win98. Jesus its so buggy its unbelieveable and it seems to slow your system down no end. What a pack of lame a$$es they are in MS, yearlt licenses pah !!!!

Hmm on the contratry (wow i sound so mature and intellgent nearly fooled yous <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
Heh no anyway I leave my home computer running 24 hours a day (hasnt rebooted in about 5 days I think) Anyway it came with win98 installed on it. I have to admit that win98 has been a joy to use for me. For installing hardware and generally running stuff day to day its the dbx (the dogs b0llix). Hasnt crashed or even given me a illegal operation error in weeks. So yeah I think its good (and better then win95). Bear in mind that it did come pre installed it was the first os on the machine so that could make a difference, I'm still making a lunix partition in the next few weeks (anyone got any suggestions for what distrubtion to get and from where I've heard some really good things about redhat)

My 2 euros worth

ChR trying to find more pictures of Cat Deeley oMe

Well you must be the exception to the Rule. Of all the Win98 machines I have here (6) they all crash quicker then other O/S. Are you actually running anything on them?

Currently longest uptime for the O/S here...

1. Redhat Linux (Despite installing major sections of the O/S I never had to reboot for 2/3rd's of a year!)
2. AS/400 (maybe joint first)
3. Win NT (Reboot when installing)
5. Win 3.1 (Running a router, rarely reboot)
4. Win 95 (Reboot weekly+installing)
6. Win 98 (Reboot daily)

Win98 is cr@p. If you get it free with a machine, fine but don't waste your money paying for it. Just get win95, and install the IE4 with full options, along with some of the free M$ tools and you have win98

hhhmm I am running loads of stuff (including c compilers and worldcraft compileing maps (5 hours of the box compileing is no mean feat). In relation in win95 and installing ie4. I dont agree that its a good idea (I dont mean to be difficult) but 3 instances on me it has severly f00ked up the machine.
Sometimes it could actually be the software that you are running not the os. BTW I'm not saying that microcrap are good I have had many headaches with their products. What I am saying is that win98 is working tickety boo for me.

ChR going out to buy a tv card so I can watch cat deeley while on irc (is this healthy?!?!) oMe
