    That's a load of cock.

Totally useless for real-time comms. And the actual throughput is dependent on the compressability of the data being transmitted.

I did a trial for a service just like that called ProxyConn.......... It doesnt work very well. It can speed up downloads by one or 2 KB/sec but nowhere near broadband speeds. It can make small pages take longer to load, because of the extra latency involved in using a proxy server. The theory is sound though, and maybe in a few years they'll have figured out how to do it properly.

unless you are using it for things like
images movies sounds pictures pdf's zip's
    service packs, virus updates

OK it works for text files / raw emails / bitmaps - as long as they don't contain realworld images or pretty pictures...

Of course this is assuming you aren't using compression on your modem or dial up connection..

    Money for old rope...

Actually it's worse all your zip's jpg's mp3's etc. will actually be bigger and slower with the extra overhead.

could be handy if you are downloading a badly optimised iso -maybe - and then only if they support resuming dropped connections ... (if they don't - forget it ..)
