Apparantly you can mod a non ati 9500, say a sapphire 9500 to run like a 9700 with a resistor change on top of the GPU chip and a bios flash!!

I dont think you even need to hardware mod it. You can just use software. It doesn't work on all 9500's though only the red backed ones. The newer ones dont allow it anymore.

Yeah but it'll only work on certain types of the card.
It needs to have memory in a kinda L shape (2x2 config) otherwise it wont work.
If you get the drivers from www.omegacorner.com it will give you the option to go from 9500>9700 or if you have a 9700 to goto 9800 aswell as working a bit better than the catalyst drivers.
Its a little easier than soldering on and off resistors and flashing

yoyr chance of getting a softmoddable card from a retailer now is very slim, even if u do get a card with l-shaped ram it mightnt work

theres a guy selling softmodders imported from hong kong on ebay atm tho for £140 sterling + p&p thats where i got mine
