Is the stuff in Ireland outside of Dublin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

yea, is it a fully functioning 56k isp, or will it get the same rep as clubIE?
only 100 lids a year. i may go for it. and i will presume the game servers are for anyone.

it will b hard to know what the story is until they get a decent number of subscribers. its dublin only, no local access outside 01 area. isn't really a problem as most pops outside dublin are crap anyway.

i've pinged the servers from here and i'm getting decent conns. i advise u lads to test them out over the weekend.

DNA opens for business on monday. the servers are in belfast, and if you've got a DNA acc they should be fast. this also means that they have a different route to the UK so barrysworld pings should b good. they aren't linked in with the other ISP's in dublin "yet".

i should have a dialup acc on monday, more on the pings then.

It doesn't matter a damn whether they have links to the other Irish ISPs, given the level of congestion on INEX... that damn link is running at 99% most of the time, and I suspect that a policy decision has been made by our cosy little cartel of Irish ISPs not to upgrade it... :/

    Ja na,

Am in on DNA at the mo and at least for modems in ireland its terrible.
Dev tells me they aint got inex link or summat and thats why its slow.
but 500 pings from dublin to indigo servers is quite bad no?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Snowbat

I ran a traceroute from DNA to www.indigo.ie The pings are all pretty low ~300-500ms until I hit the TeleEireann gateway in London which was up around 1500ms.
This is tied in with the Indigo/Tinet latency problem to certain domains, mostly UK. I'm sure this will be fixed soon, now that Indigo's Alan Judge is back from his holidays and can put pressure on UUnet to fix it.

Bear in mind that this route is via the US. AFAIK DNA have a router in linx so when te.net eventually join linx, that'll help.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭ButcherOfNog

problem is snowbat that we can get pings of 120ms on the quake.ie servers on tinet. to play quake you really want pings no more than 250ms max plus as little p/l as possible. i'm waiting until the weekend to check dna's own servers but reports from others don't look good.

having said this, DNA have only just opened for business. I think they'll improve

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Snowbat

DNA's *upstream provider* have a router in LINX, to be precise. Yeah, believe me, I know all about needing low pings... I used to play a lot of Quake and enjoyed my time in CG (I decided to leave CG cuz superior players were joining and I felt I was holding the clan back). I don't recall seeing you on the servers Mr. O'Nog... I'll drop by quake.ie over the weekend and look out for you. I only found this kewl board yesterday - nice job guys!
