On the North sea coast the sailors traditionally got an earring with their family initials in it. Each family have their own style of lettering, the reason for these is that if the sailor is lost at sea and his body is washed up somewhere at least there is gold to pay for the burial, so the gypsy idea may not be too far off.

Ahh them were the days.....
I remember coming home with my first piercing, it was the top of my ear pierced and I was 15. My dad threw the biggest freaker Ive ever seen him get into. Grabbed me by the head and was actually shouting at me saying "You look like a f*ckin girl, take it out now". Thinking back on it he did overreact a little but oh well,

Now I love coming home and showing my parents my latest piercings as they think that my choice of positioning just cant get any wierder(you'd wanna see my mams face when i showed her my nape) but I always manage to surprise them that little bit more everytime
